New Simplex Models Coming
Johnnysalami1957 replied to β Cipher's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
If the Simplex ultra had selectable frequencies it would be worth looking at. Maybe a quick revamp will save it. -
I watch many videos on all kinds of different topics. I take them all with a grain of salt or even a 5 lb bag. People don't make a much money on youtube anymore and if you scroll through the topics and see the pictures they are rarely what's in the content. You can always change the channel if you don't like or agree with the presenter. I could fault lots of things but is it really worth it? My mother always said to pick your battles. I still look at Calabashs videos. I like him as a presenter . Do I agree with everything? Na. I see he made made up with Nokta and has a Legend to test now. Before I retired as an HVAC/R instructor I had to have continuing education every year. There was always an instructor that was long on wind and short on knowledge. I just didn't pay attention to them. I didn't feel the need to point out their mistakes because I had a more in depth understanding of the subject matter. I took the higher road. I just do what Jeff does and change the channel. Eventually if he continues this, he will have no viewers. He's digging his own grave. Pun intended.

Minelabs X-Terra Pro.... Anyone Enjoying Theirs?
Johnnysalami1957 replied to bigtim1973's topic in Minelab X-Terra Forum
I would like it in black and grey/red better than the green. -
Quest Xpointer Max Review (update 2)
Johnnysalami1957 replied to F350Platinum's topic in Quest Metal Detectors
I was thinking of using that plastic dip coating, Plasticote for my pinpointer. It's been around forever and works on tool handles. You can control the thickness by dipping more or less. Comes on many colors too! -
Just Picked Up The X-Terra Pro
Johnnysalami1957 replied to George Kinsey's topic in Minelab X-Terra Forum
C'mon. George we are waiting for the low down! π -
The first box on the upper left Field forrest field mode has all the arrows pointing into the box. Flow charts have an in and out with choices determined by what you want to do. They usually start at the top and drill down. This chart is very confusing.

Looks like they are blowing the older version out without the new coil and carbon fiber midshaft. That's fine if you are happy with that.

Then I suggest you use the warranty. OR you really did waste 700 bucks. You can't rate a broken machine anyway.

Found Shiny Rock In Garden In South Florida
Johnnysalami1957 replied to love4180's topic in Rocks, Minerals, Gems & Geology
Looks like calcite. Very common in Fla. Worthless. There are 1000s of rock, mineral and crystal ID charts on Google. That's where I looked up your specimen. Next time it may be a nice piece of quartz! -
Don't second guess yourself George. I was the model husband and father and after 31 years s*it happens. Be happy every day because it's not your responsibility to make everyone around you happy. I would have preferred to stay together with my love, but I couldn't take another garage sale, or chihuahua growling at me when I wanted a hug. Keep digging if that makes you happy.

Just go out and buy a Garrett Carrot, they work fine. There is no perfect anything. Just get one and get used to using it. I have an old black Garrett and it works fine. If it interferes with your machine move the machine a little further away. We are lucky to have pinpointers. My mom used get pissed when I borrowed her long spoons before they existed. And I'm in no shape now to dig around like a dog looking for a bb.

Retirement Has Given Me The Time To Try Something New
Johnnysalami1957 replied to SilverSteve's topic in Meet & Greet
Welcome Steve! I retired 4 years ago. It's was a big transition for me being a hyper person and moving to Tennessee from NJ. Have you tried drinking yet? LOL! Remember every treasure you dig, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Good Luck and happy hunting! -
I still think they need a cigar clipper and lighter on the machines.

Automatic And Variable Recovery Speed?
Johnnysalami1957 replied to Digalicious's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Speed of swing would not be in the equation. Software would determine how fast a detector reacts to targets per time period and adjust accordingly. Less time periods between reacting to targets would mean it would have to increase recovery speed. Less and it would decrease recovery speed. Just my thoughts of course.... -
New Member Restrictions

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Steve. You have created a wonderful place for us to learn and exchange ideas. I for one have learned a great deal here. Do what you need to do to make things run smoothly and with less stress for you. As long as I get to stayπ -
Head To Head Comparisons
Johnnysalami1957 replied to Johnnysalami1957's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Lable the machines a.d.c and d. Nobody knows what manufacturer they are. Use park 1 on each machine. See which machine hits more targets. This doesn't make any machine better. It's just an interpretation of the software presets that a,b,c and d have and close the manufacturer can come to a good setting. Personally don't buy on reviews because it seems that everyone has the best machine for them here. I buy the machine with the most adjustability. Even if never use them, I have the capability. I Need the lightest machine that will do the task I need it to do at any cost. -
Head To Head Comparisons
Johnnysalami1957 replied to Johnnysalami1957's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I wasn't looking to determine which detector is best. Just a comparison of the stock settings and the comparison to each other. Even low end detectors sometimes have rudimentary adjustments that can be explored as people learn what works better for their particular conditions. -

Just would show what each manufacturer sets their stock settings to the targets they can hit. -
The Best Metal Detector Out There
Johnnysalami1957 replied to Chase Goldman's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
The one between your ears!π -
It would be informative for an out of the box zero adjustment head to head comparison on the Legend, E900 , Deus II and Manticore and any other machine you choose. Run each detector in the closest stock program with just a ground balance. We'll see how good the stone stock factory setup is for a beginner. None of this "If I do this it equals that stuff". Real targets in the ground, no air testing, same targets for each obviously. No headphones. A stock car drag race!
