  1. Unusual for something like this to be be found east of Ballarat as most of that country is volcanic and covered by extensive basalt flows. There are several gold fields east of Ballarat, but they are not noted for big gold.
  2. Gold Ryder. I don't use a 'trash can lid' and haven't since the nineties. Settings always depend on the particular area being detected, but Bogene settings work well on a 4000. Threshold off and every thing maxed. (where possible) Phrunt, with all due respect, you only have experience with fly poop, so not much point in you using a big coil. You have over a dozen detectors and God knows how many coils to hunt fly poop!!! Incredible! must drive your missus nuts.
  3. Some people need to have that gold fix regularly, so they opt for the small coils. I couldn't give damn about fly poop gold, so don't care if I come home with nothing for weeks. Mind you, I will dig small gold if the signal is there, but I sure don't go looking for it, plus a big coil covers so much more ground. That 25" NF coil is as light as a feather, so can swing it all day.
  4. The three spoked one at the top is the one that I have. Worked really well on a 4000
  5. Nuggetfinder made a 25" coil that was super light. Not sure if still available but I have one and it is excellent.
  6. Valens Legacy, I was referring to idiots in Australia and not on this forum. Except for the odd spelling or grammar stumble most folk here seem to be fairly rational and level headed, certainly more so than other sites I could mention. If you keep your moonshine in glass it will not improve with age. Wine will improve with age in glass until it reaches it's peak in quality and then go into decline. Whiskey will only age in wood.
  7. Aren't this mob a Nokta agency? No big deal if they get cranky with Minelab who in my opinion build better detectors. (even with their faults)
  8. Well phrunt, it's pretty bloody obvious where the problem lies. Minelab just don't have the calibre of testers that they used to. 😄 Old and proven testers were given the flick in favour of younger 'pretty boys' and yes men. I partly blame Codan because they changed the whole Minelab structure. As an example, the advertising just became total BS and manufacturing went to a country that has one of the worst reputations in the world for slave labour in the electronics industry. To make more profit without any moral or ethical considerations became the new norm. To be a tester for Minelab these days obviously requires little experience or credibility just a blind sycophantic product loyalty. Not the company they used to be. (unfortunately)
  9. GS5000, that canned fish looks disgusting, and I have managed to find the odd colour on my pasta and rice diet, so I shall give your culinary advice a miss thanks. You are right about my country going down the dunny. We bought the maps from you. PS the correct spelling for the second application is....there, not their. PPs Give up the smokes. Not good for your health.
  10. For short prospecting trips a few sourdough rolls (buns) and cheese and fruit are adequate. For longer trips (fortnight or so) sausages and chops (cutlets) which are used in the first few days and from then on its vegetarian, mainly pasta and rice based dishes, with whatever vegetables will last the distance. A few beers and a bottle of my home made whiskey are also included. Naturally plenty of water from my rainwater tank.
  11. The problem is that idiots outbreed those with a modicum of intelligence and are easily influenced by the avalanche of the worst of America (moronic television programs and junk food). We are becoming just an extra state of the USA and a puppet country that does what Uncle Sam dictates. Having been to America I have seen some of the poorer areas that are third world, with trash everywhere. As an example we loyally follow the USA into each unjust and unwinnable war that our master commands, which other countries are smart enough to avoid. There are some great intelligent people in America that have contributed to world betterment, but don't kid yourself, there is a dark and dangerous, not very smart aspect as well, that the less intelligent of Australians identify with. We have perhaps more that our share of idiots here.
  12. What is it with this Yank obsession with eating bits of dried up dead cow? You lot thrive on the most disgusting stuff, and unfortunately many American fast food franchises operate here as well. The result is that Australians are fast becoming as obese as Americans, plus the packaging from this rubbish now litters our highways.
  13. I like it. Would build me a custom version? I was thinking that maybe the hotrock signal could be the laughing Kookaburra. Lead a pigs grunt. Iron A donkey's bray aluminium Flatulent sound (fart) copper Laughter gold Cash register (Ka-Ching) You know, I think you are onto something. Does Minelab approve your modification?
  14. I have detected in Vietnam, but only found Russian coins. Gold has been detected in some parts of Vietnam, but seeing how there are still mines and shells in the area you would probably need to leave any big signals.
  15. That is the one. I have a copy and have (as in the book) always referred to nuggets as those lumps of gold being 20ozs or better. Not tiny specks that require a scientific set of scales to even measure.
  16. Well, the lesson to be learned here is that satire is completely wasted on the Yanks.... They just don't get it.
  17. Open invitation to Garrett. Send me an Axiom and I will soon tell you how well it performs 'down under'. If it performs well, you will tell me to keep it, if not I will send it back. I am not married to any make, and have a reasonable idea of how to use a detector. If it is good, you have nothing to lose, and neither do I.
  18. WA was never very kind to me. Best effort was a 6oz speci. Mostly small stuff. Sold nearly all the gold I ever found. Porsches or gold? If you've ever driven a Carrera the answer is easy. You only live once, and if you do it right, once is enough. PS I have to say that is one very pretty piece. Don't blame you for keeping it.
  19. Silly videos like that one just make Aussies look ridiculous.
  20. And that's big gold? Good grief! If they got so excited over that bit, what would be the reaction if they found a real big piece?
  21. Well Simon, I wouldn't bother waiting by the letterbox for your Christmas card from Minelab this year. Mine failed to turn up after my posts on my impressions of the GPZ19" coil.
  22. Pity you won't get to Bendigo Victoria as I live less than an hour from there and would have liked to catch up.
