  1. Can someone point me to the Fisher eBay site? Finding a lot of other vendors but not as above - thx.
  2. I shall hither forth and forevermore refer to you as Steve Zodiac. About the same age as you Steve Z; remember hearing about the event in awe. Can't imaging being there at ground zero. "Ok, Venus? Ok Steve. Right! Let's go!"
  3. That doesn't look like a Deus to me.. ?
  4. Well done on many fronts there, sir! Difficult to detect NSR gold with an Apex or any other detector for that matter, but that token is interesting. Any guesses as to what it is, or made of?
  5. Nice work John, weather is certainly improving too 🙂 Still waiting for the spring freshet, maybe see you on the NSR some day soon...
  6. I don't like ABS filament for the noxious fumes it gives off during printing. It's not particularly tough either in my experience, as you can mar it with your fingernail. For filament prints I like PETG or other nylons. For resin prints I mostly choose Formlabs "Tough 1500". Resins of course come with their own challenges, being toxic until cured, and the isopropyl alcohol vapours emitted during the wash phase. But the resolution is hard to beat.
  7. It depends on the complexity of the object - either a scan or CAD model. The CAD models are preferable as you can modify them much more easily, especially if you define measurements parametrically. But, some things are just a pain to model.

This Bipod twists on and off of the unique Deus shaft profile. Takes seconds to snap on and off, can be slid up and down the shaft to whatever height suits your fancy. It elevates the coil enough to wave a scoop full of materials easily. I printed it in PETG to give it some flexibility. PLA might be a bit brittle.

Broke the shaft of the 9" HF elliptical just behind the knuckle. It's weaker than the standard shafts because of the port for battery cable going to the shaft. The OEM replacement wasn't outlandishly expensive - but the shipping sure was! So, I designed this to slip on over the remainder of the bucked off shaft. Sort of like Captain Hook's peg leg, but with all the functionality of the original. It's a press fit, so I didn't actually have to pin it with the hole. I did it in resin, so YMMV. Let me know if it needs tweaks. Thanks again Steve for the space to post these files.
  10. The only formats I use routinely are obj and stl. I know some like the 3MF format although I have no experience with it, as the work I do doesn't call for colour and material definitions, which I understand 3MF encapsulates.
  11. Thanks Steve. Also appreciate how much effort the never ending wave of internet crud takes to deflect.
  12. Hi Steve, I recall you said you were going to set up a location on the site for 3D models of use by the community. I can't seem to find it - I have a couple of models I would like to contribute to give a little something back to this site. Thanks
  13. Just kicking this thread to keep it alive 😉
  14. Hi Steve, Wanted to kick this around for consideration. I know some of us have come up with models for 3D printed devices that are useful in this particular art of prospecting with detectors. Would you consider a new category in the Downloads section for such printer files? I know I and others have uploaded objects into various threads, but they do tend to get lost in the shuffle. I've got another object standing by to start things off if you would agree. Thx,
  15. Let us pause to consider the brave, new greenwashed world where oil is eliminated; the ambulances and fire trucks at your beck and call are are somehow smelted and powered solar electrically - sourced with locally and ethically produced nickel, copper and lithium. Plastics, rubber, and steel eliminated and replaced with compressed leaf matter. Solar cells magically created not by existing coal-fired Chinese silicon rare earth and Uighur slave labour camps, but rather you imaginary rainbow unicorn farts: https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a41573015/teslas-flooded-during-hurricane-ian-are-spontaneously-igniting-in-its-aftermath/
  16. Yah, so JB Weld Plastic didn't hold. Certain plastics epoxies just won't dig into - this shaft is made of one. If I was to add an internal collar + epoxy, passing the battery lead thru might prove impossible; not much wasted space there. An external clamp plus epoxy, well that also adds weight. I am mostly concerned that a metal hose clamp or metal filled epoxy would negatively impact the coil field, skewing it skywards instead of downwards. But, both fixes would defeat one of the best features of the XP detectors - they are the lightest available. Guess I'm popping for a new shaft and will treat the next one better.
  17. My garage door opener would have detected this thing.
  18. Replacement shafts are north of $52 Trudeau Pesos, not including Gouge Screw Tax, then who knows what for shipping + more GST. Opted for the "JB Weld Plastic" option - weighs in at 80 grams post repair. Not pretty but let's see how it fares:
  19. Dropped the detector and the shaft snapped just above the bolt. What are the options? JB Weld? Someone make a new, stronger shaft?
  20. Ah, Atlin. Would like to get there some day, one of my friends grew up there. Another buddy is currently checking out a property he bought near Germansen Landing - not so far north as Atlin, but similarly remote and challenging.
  21. During the Cariboo gold rush, Barkerville was actually the largest city west of Chicago and north of San Fran. I'm going to be doing research in their archives in a couple of weeks. That, and walking some potential ground. Hopefully no snow and a bit of detecting as well.
  22. Thank you GMS, you are a wealth of knowledge, as always. Now, speaking of Vintage - if only we could resurrect the gpex.ca web site. That was a real loss to the prospecting community.
  23. Can crank 9 liters you say? That's a relief because I often find my 8.3 liter V10 Viper is dead when I get back to it after being walkabout. But I wonder if it can do anything for the porcupines chewing on the rubber hoses...
