Well it would appear that the end of the year update may have been for 2023.

This needs an update. I regularly dig memorials that ID at 94-95. Clad dimes at 90-91. Yesterday I dug a mercury that rang at 89 and a 43 quarter that also hit at 89. I've also noticed some issues with what I will call separation identification. As a wet salt sand machine it's deep and it's ID is great. I'm not as impressed in the dirt as yet.

I heard it from this forum. Not sure who said it or the thread it was in.

I'm just curious what most folks are expecting XP to upgrade to in the D2 update? What are some of the things they need to fix software wise? I've heard the update will be released at the end of this year so if it is it's a few days away. Inquiring minds want to know

Hammer meet nail. Testing is good for one thing, learning the numbers and sounds certain targets come in at. Once you have a good grasp of them you take your new detector out and go dig everything to try and confirm what you saw in the garage. Do that over and over again in as many different conditions as possible and learn your detector. Merrill seems to follow this type of testing. These other videos of how it handles a dime with a rusty nail at 8" with a slow swing speed on a box between a 2x4 with high EMI in hot dirt is just mind numbing.

Very nicely done. My lower shaft camlock is starting to loosen up on my D2 so I'm likely going to need a replacement soon. Once the holidays are over I'm going to stress to my wife that without a new set up I will become just average and all her new rings will be junk unless I get this.

I appreciate the help! I learned years ago that the key to new detectors is my wife I can honestly say that she hasn't questioned a purchase I've made in forever related to detecting. Other things have brought out the evil eye but not detecting. I'll have a pic by the end of the week.

I thought I did but the magnify app I used for pics didn't save it to my files. The other issue I have is that my daughter did the "pretty please" and I sent it to her in Brooklyn yesterday. I'll have her take a pic for me when she gets it and post it. It's really unique in that it has 2 P's and then what looks like an L and then a square that fits in the L if that makes sense. I don't keep many of my rings/bracelets I find in that my wife, daughter, son, and mom usually get to choose amongst the good stuff I get. I'd rather someone enjoy it than keep it in a box.

That's great stuff! I found something similar to it I think that related to a Lord Galiony? You're right that it's a livery of a swift/swallow/martin. Really cool things you uncovered. It's the history that drives these things and makes them more than just finds/targets in the sand. Thanks for your efforts.

No idea but that’s a cool idea. The makers mark is PPL with a square inside the L if that makes sense. It was under 4.5 of sand when you figure the cut and depth so I’m pretty sure it’s old gold. The weight to size ratio is amazing. My wedding ring is twice the size and nearly half the weight ( I was cheap) of this one. Definitely a good day.

Here's a pic of the cut/location from up above. You can see my skid marks all over the sand. You can't tell from the pic but at the far end next to the wall that is a young lady in what can only be described as the skimpiest of one pieces ever manufactured. She must be an influencer/model of some sort because she had a tri-pod set up and she was posing and jumping in front of it for about an hour. I was going to to tell her to knock it off but I decided to be polite and let her continue.

The 9" looks like a q-tip compared to the 13". I'm sensing deep gold in your future.

Yes I did. I actually pulled a quarter out of the side of it. When you get a cut like this you just get this giddy all over kind of feeling. Last year I hit one on Silverstrand in Oxnard that was over my head. I was pulling old fishing lures by the dozens out of it. Winter storms are your friend. We just haven't gotten many these past few years.

Ok, I admit I just wanted to use "bobby dazzler" in a metal detecting sentence. I got out early this morning to hit a beach I hadn't been to for a while and I was met with a fairly significant cut of around 40 inches of sand. It stretched about a hundred yards so I got right into working the area in front of it. I was using my D2 and right at the base of the cut I got a deep sounding squeak with an ID of 67-71. It took two scoops to get it out and there was the bobby dazzler in my scoop, 14k gold. The ring is small (size 4-5) but hit 5.86 grams on the scale and it is heavy to the touch. I got lucky today because this one would likely have been re-buried during the next tidal cycles. We have finally gotten some sand to move so I'm hopeful for more of these in the next few weeks.

I'm like you in that I love the history of finds. I love to recreate scenes of how at one time the item now in my hands was used or cherished by someone else a 100 years ago. I'm always creating a story behind each find, it's what makes detecting fun for me other than finding incredible gold rings . No site is ever hunted out, there are always more stories to uncover.

Regardless of tests, out in the actual field, park, beach, the person who investigates and digs the most targets will find the most stuff. The things they learn while doing it will increase their finds/rewards more than any specific detector would regardless of brand. Testing is great if it's done while actually hunting. Just saying

The question is will the average hunter dig any of those signals or just keep on walking especially if you're in a trashy park? The reason why gold rings are so hard to come by is they require digging hundreds if not thousands of holes of almost all trash to secure the few rings out there. It's the detector between your ears that matters the most as to whether or not you're going to take a knee and dig a hole. All these tests are great and help pass the time but I'd like to see a real day of digging with the manticore or D2 or Nokta where we see all the targets dug that fooled the swinger.

Please keep posting your observations! Please don't let the immaturity of a few poison the well. Truthfully I'm so sick of the manticore, minelab, codan, equinox 900 etc., at this point. People need to just go detect at this point instead of crying over the marketing of a detector. As a beach hunter I'm on the fence about getting the 13" and your opinion is important in my purchase of one as is F350, and Captain. I look forward to your reports.

Ive had my Mi6 for 5 years and it never paired with my D1 so I had zero expectations with the D2. That being said it paired the first time and has worked seamlessly out of the box. If I remember correctly I had the pinpointer on and next to the remote when I did it. I then turned on the remote and went through the pairing process and it worked. I'm the least capable human technology wise so if had been harder than that I'd still be unconnected. I will say that you will love it once you're good to go. I wish you the best on getting it done.

Copy. I think on the beach it will help to ID at depth better and if it gives you a 4" sweep increase that's quite a bit while walking a mile on the beach or am I missing something?
