  1. I was able to get away for a couple days this week. Shipped my detector and scoop to a friend who lives in Charleston and flew down on Thursday night. I was able to hunt on Friday and Saturday and fly home Sunday, (today). Targets were few and far between, with the beach seemed to be upside down. Most of the bottle tops and pull tabs being at low tide line and sinkers and gold about mid beach. The larger ring is 14k and the smaller ring is 10k. Nothing toward the towel line. The iPhone was about 10 inches down mid beach and charged up nicely. Also with the phone was a driver's license and a debit card. I will mail those back to the owner tomorrow. For me the Tarsacci is just a great beach detector.
  2. Steve, Please do not nuke the Tarsacci forum. I am dealing with elderly parents currently and trying to get myself into a position where I can spend more time on the beach. I will post and with the Tarsacci I know it will be posts of wonderful finds. Hang in there Steve, better days with the Tarsacci are coming and will be posted.
  3. Yes Skull. Great work and beautiful finds. Proof that hard work and adapting your equipment to your environment will always pay off. Always a pleasure following your posts.
  4. Just tested 8 gold rings, from a small thin 10k band to a very large class ring and everything in between. The Deus 2 had a spread of 48 on the lowest to an 88 for the class ring. For what it's worth, the Tarsacci had a spread of 5 to 17 for the same gold ring collection. I think this just goes to show how difficult it is to cherry pick with any detector, but I agree the Deus 2 is the hardest to cherry pick gold because of the huge numerical spread that it presents as gold.
  5. I went for a hearing test yesterday because my wife thinks I am losing my hearing. After the Audiologist finished the tests, it was determined that I have a hard time hearing higher pitch tones. I told the Audiologist that I was having trouble hearing in the car and at the beach. She informed me that's because background noises were making it even harder to hear higher pitched sounds. Fortunately she also metal detects and she recommended that I change the tones on my metal detector to more of a mid-tone for good targets. This will make it easier to hear a good target through the background noise. I asked about hearing aides and she said "No wait until you are over 65, then the Medicare insurance plan will pay for your hearing aides." So the result of the visit are hopefully better target recognition on a windy beach and savings of $$thousands. I of course, told my wife I didn't need hearing aides.
  6. I had a similar experience to you. First time out with the AQ on the beach. Dug a few tent stakes thinking I was actually figuring out the new machine. Dug a crusty penny and suddenly the machine was acting strange. Every time I swung the coil from right to left the machine would signal a target. When I went from left to right, nothing. I changed settings, but nothing could change the machine. I started to think that the machine was defective and that I would have to send it back to Fisher. So I turn off the AQ and head back to the beach condo to get another machine. Since it was a little cold and breezy I left the headphones on for warmth. Once I got back into the room I took the headphones off and realized that I did not turn off my pinpointer after I dug the last target. Since my pouch was on my left hip, every time I swung to the left it detected the pinpointer. As Gilda Radner said "Never Mind."
  7. A forum member sent me a personal message and ask me: "What is the difference in depth between the Tony Eisenhower AQ headphones and the original headphones that came with the AQ?" I was having lunch at the beach condo and trying to think how to answer and quantify the response. Fortunately I did find a 14k mens wedding band this week, I have some string in the car, and a dollar bill is 6 inches long. So I tied the string to the ring, measured off 18 inches and went down to the beach with the AQ. After digging the hole to 18 inches and covering the target I proceeded to sweep the AQ over the target with Tony Eisenhower's high efficiency headphones on and could clearly hear and would stop to investigate the target. There is a little wind and wave noise today, but the signal clearly came through as a dig me target. Switching to the original headphones, I could not hear the target and would not have stopped to investigate the signal. Tony's headphones have more volume, eliminate more background noise and present the target with more clarity. How much deeper are Tony's headphones? I don't know. They are and I am digging some craters on the beach with this combo. My favorite question of the week is: "What the hell are you digging for?"
  8. BK, I went with the High Efficiency model. My thought was I would never be deeper than my nipples so the headphones should never be submerged. They are really nice. Block out most of the wind and wave noise and are much better than the set that came with the AQ. I really have no idea on the piezo question. Running Black Widow headphones on the Deus 2, Killer B's on the Tarsacci and Tony's on the AQ.
  9. Tom, I own both coils and really prefer the Bigfoot coil. Better pinpointing, better vdi numbers just a nicer coil on the v3i. To tell you the truth the Arrow coil rarely if ever gets used. I probably should sell it, but........... Really the only two coils I ever use on the v3i are the Bigfoot and the 13" Ultimate coil. Sometimes you can find a Bigfoot coil cheap on Ebay, but you have to be quick, because they sell quickly.
  10. When and why would you use the 8" coil on the AQ at the beach? Is it strictly an in the water coil or does it have uses on the wet sand?
  11. Joe, The JBL's have noise cancelling built into the headphones, but you can turn the noise cancelling on or off. My thought is if the noise cancelling works on wind and wave noise, but allows the AQ audio to come thru, they will really be a killer set on the beach. Then use the JBL's on the beach and Tony's in the water.
  12. This set I am using, Tony Eisenhower made for me. Tony@idigbeaches.com. I am working on a non-waterproof set with JBL headphones that I hope to have done before I leave for the beach next week. It will be an interesting experiment to see what works best on the wet sand, because there is no way I am going into the water in January. I can honestly say that Tony's headphones are superior to the stock headphones that came with my AQ. It really surprised me how much a quality pair of headphones helps a metal detector perform. I see it in the Tarsacci and I am now seeing it in the AQ. Isn't it amazing that we spend $$$$ on a metal detector and stick with the free pair of headphones that came with the detector.
  13. I have only been able to use the AQ on the beach for about an hour. With the original headphones I struggled to hear the differences that the Masters of the AQ talk about. I could hear the double beep on the rusty steel, but the ramp up and ramp down and the soft edges vs the defined edges, I just could not hear it. Then when I went home I tested targets for hours. Pennies, nickels, quarters, screws, bolts, tent stakes, copper rings, silver rings, platinum rings, gold class rings, tiny engagement rings.........etc, but I could not hear much difference. I assumed that I was going deaf and scheduled an appointment with the Audiologist for January. Today for the first time, I put a set of custom homemade headphones onto the AQ and let me tell you what a difference it makes. The ramp up ramp down was all there. The sound chop off when the coil was leaving a ring was so distinct you could tell with your eyes closed if the object was a ring or a nickel. It was my wax on wax off moment. Really excited to take it next week to the beach and see if the backyard transfers onto the beach. I want to sincerely thank the forum members who have been so generous with their knowledge, experience and recommendations. Merry Christmas to all and a safe and Healthy 2024.
  14. A lot of nice silver from the 40's and 50's. Another great hunt. When does the AQ join the hunting stable?
