Of course Plumas County is in Kalifornia, and big fury critters are still known to hunt up there, yet legally we can't "carry" - not even for protection. Certainly not with a 50Cal Musket. Today, if that prospector had killed the bear, he would be looking at jail time and stiff fines.... No matter how large or threatening the bear was. Nowadays a semi-auto pistol packing 20mm Solid Heavy Hard Cast Buffalo Bore bullets would have handled that Super sized Grizzly, assuming you can point it reasonably well, and that prospector would had many more opportunities than just the one round to stop that bear. What a difference a 170 years makes, and I do love the 50Cal ball - but that musket had no chance without a lot of luck; it had no velocity (nor penetration) - leaving the prospector having no chances either. Sorry to digress from what I love - prospecting, but reading your fine story stirs the concerns within me, I just get drawn back to how handicapped we are as prospectors in this state (a state which I dearly love). I hate the thought of killing anything, yet I also hate the thought of dying for this minor occupation we pursue at great cost and risk. I am happy you found you patch, but your story just made me think about how exposed we are out there in our pursuits. We carry all the right gear, but little or no protection, and certainly no 50Cal. I can't wait until Lunk gets ahold of this GPX 6000 machine. Pretty soon Arizona will be outa Gold, it'll all be in Lunk's poke, or Gerry's, but Lunk puts in more time, 😂 at least in AZ. Gerry hits Idaho the hardest. Good luck out there fellas, you two are tearing it up.

While running the GPZ7000 with the 15” coil, I can find some amazingly small gold, but pin pointing that same find can suck a lot of time, and I’ve had to give up a few hard to isolate Find’s. So I know a good pin pointer has become a must have. My solution & the absolute best pin pointer I’ve ever used is the Gold Monster 1000 with it’s smallest coil and a shorter shaft... (to fit in my backpack.). Now I’ve only tested it against the Minelab Pro-Find 35 & the Garrett Pro “Orange Carrot” Pin Pointers, and that has only been for gold. The ML P-F35 is great for coins, and multi gram gold, but the Monster will hit on most any sized “picker” gold with that small 5” coil.... a simply amazing tool. Happy swinging out there!

Well thank you, and thank God somebody “out there”, has some sense left. Locking us down too, just made no sense at all. Whom exactly, would we be a viral threat to out there. Most of us are loner’s, keeping to ourselves (other than our immediate family members), rarely mixing it up in crowds while we toil at finding our precious metals. RIP Fred, You were both a neighbor in our MD interests, and in our our home base - San Diego. As has been said so often in this thread, we will miss your input, feedback, sensible knowledge and comments. I just wish we had talked more often while you were so darn nearby. There’s no mention of these new items on your site. Knowing what you’ve gone thru in developing your new tools, I’d imagine you may not have the products in stock yet, so let us know when and how much. Any word on the cost, the specs, the weight, the extension cord (perhaps it’s the scale/size of this coil - but the cable does appear short).

Further proof, the GM is a dynamite detector, certainly in the right areas. While suffering from great depth ability, the GM’s weight and sensitivity enables you to confidently “prospect” the harder to reach areas without the backache. The GM rivals the GPZ in finding the smallest of nuggets, but without some of the larger detector’s penalties. My wish was to know a bit more (from Gerry or MH) about what the conditions were that MH was detecting in. His specimen finds are terrific, especially for his first outing. Hopefully he can share a bit more info (w/o revealing his location) about what conditions, soil, hillside, or veins he was working. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome back to the AU zone Lunk, great looking gold for the Patch. You’ve been missed. Your skills and ability to find the gold “that I’d just missed” (way back when the Zed was new in 2014), convinced me to divest myself of lesser gear and jump on the GPZ wagon. Between you and Gerry, I’ve never regretted that move. You two, along with all the advise of Steve & JP, have become the game-changers in my outings. So thanks to all, my poke keeps getting heavier.
