  1. Some rings with a setting also chatter. One recent gold ring chattered more than normal because it was 'broken.' It was complete but it had broken at a previous resizing so when the sound came back it was a chatter. An unbroken band has a different sound. If a ring has the same metal would it have a different number if it was broken? I think I'll have to try an earring sometime. Try it open and then try it with the clasp closed which would complete the loop. Would there be different numbers?
  2. I think calibration of responses with the pinpointer will be a helpful tool. We get reference sounds already of that nice, mellow gold sound out looking for nuggets and I like the sound of a nice, round ring. Unfortunately the bane of beach hunting right now for me are the Shield Pennies. When salt has been added to them they can come in at anywhere from 10 - 25 on the 800 scale so I'm thinking they would be difficult for the 1500 to categorize. I'm wondering a consistent reference for a bobby pin or the old faithful nickel. How will the shape of an object influence the response? One thing for sure is that an audio response has a greater scale than a digital screen. That would just be an assist. My hearing aids could be a better feature than the scale.
  3. So, I read some of this to my wife and she had a question which I liked. If you go to this private land you have been given permission to hunt and you find with a metal detector a silver coin, a gold coin and a gold nugget, which ones can you legally keep? (Now I just thought that each of the states have different laws about lost property. The finder many not really be entitled to it! Just like a treasure ship.) How deep are surface rights vs subsurface? This kinda gets back to the lode vs placer claim rights.
  4. The Hand of Faith Gold Nugget is on display in Las Vegas. The nugget in question is in Japan! It is a replica. Certified by Guinness World Records and crafted by Mitsubishi Materials in June 2005, this remarkable piece of gold was initially valued at 400 million yen.
  5. I read a story that said the largest gold nugget (250kg) was in Japan! What? Then I read further that it was made in 2005. Hummm How do you 'make' a gold nugget? Then I looked at a different source and found out that there had been a lot of gold mined in Japan years ago and I think this place correctly called it a gold bar. Here are a couple of links. 6. The 90 degree angle cable is clever. I wonder if anyone uses materials like this in short lengths? https://aax-us-iad.amazon.com/x/c/RGT6vMG897H1Ufg5H1OilnsAAAGN8wgWlAEAAAH2AQBvbm9fdHhuX2JpZDQgICBvbm9fdHhuX2ltcDEgICBXKSE0/https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MVZS3LY?pd_rd_i=B09MVZS3LY&pf_rd_p=dd9d838b-6783-4821-8310-06c0d426ac6f&pf_rd_r=PNF7KVHBWKT3029DB194&pd_rd_wg=DOlsz&pd_rd_w=eaYn9&pd_rd_r=9cd32c3c-6d13-4994-bacf-ceb90c8fcd54 There is a video there I'd like to capture directly that shows bending and pulling on the connectors and they don't break! I'll look on YT for it.
  7. You will experience more of this one based on your location.
  8. I think we would hear from them if it was rubbish! They may be the type that are doing quite well with it such as Norvic and they just don't want to give up any advantage by telling someone. It is an advantage to exploit just as a Z, X-coil or other producer.
  9. Actually without an ID, I'm interested in size and depth. There is a redundancy in that area I would think of small gold remaining and you are right, one of them should be able to separate the gold from trash. If we know it does so on the surface without depth then we know. Knowing is just better in this case. There are other comparisons of interest also.
  10. Is there a thread here that compares these two? I'm just thinking about the small gold comparison with the M8. I think Simon is new to both of them if he has an M8. He was comparing the Manticore to the 800 and some others. Does Norvic have a Manticore?
  11. Norvic, There may be a better thread for this but how does the 1500 and coils compare to the modded 2300 you made? Mitchel
  12. Norvic, Which are you ... easy, clever or good? haha I know you are good. Your results prove that. I know you are clever. You find the good in each of the new detectors you try. I don't know if you are easy on the manufacturers, but I know they pay attention to what you say. I pay attention. You make yourself easy to understand. So, you are all three in my book. Mitchel

  14. All the way from Pensacola to Panama City are some of the whitest sand beaches anywhere. When you get into the Big Bend the beaches are not so good until you get near Tampa. Sarasota is nice! Ft. Myers and a few beaches down that way are about it until you get down to the Keys. The East Coast of Florida is a different animal with hundreds of beaches.
  15. Well done. Thank you for the report and I do think you are on the final frontier unless you find a ship wreck.
  16. I wish you peace and health and memorable swings where you are detecting now and when you are ready, come back, tell us what you've found.
  17. Most of the time not but I do know people who go to parks or open fields who do that before they detect. It saves them time and increases the take of older coins.
  18. Here is a collection of early California pictures. I've been to many of these places but didn't know what was there before. These Vintage Photos Of California Are Over A Century Old (msn.com)
  19. Great finds! I've missed the location, GB?
  20. My original plan was to go to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas but they made it very difficult to make reservations and I cancelled those plans.
  21. Those are great. I didn't get very good shots with my big camera. Where can I get a quick lesson online?
  22. I've seen a total solar eclipse in Wyoming, and it is worth seeing again since it will only be about 3 days away in Texas. I've made plans to stay in Carlsbad, NM after I go to Deming. They have a great museum there. I hope it is open. When we leave Carlsbad then I'll go to Eastland, TX for a couple of nights and see the eclipse somewhere between Gatesville and Hillsboro. We may take in the Dinosaur State Park depending on the traffic. Getting back to California may be a chore but we'll see what people are doing. I don't have to be anywhere too soon after that because I've taken my son out of school for this and another trip to follow. Where will any of you watch? You have any pointers for me? Mitchel
