Work - Mining Jobs

Im just curious on how a guy goes about applying for a job like this? I have 5 yrs of experience running a dozer, excavator, loader, skidsteer and crushing operation. Its not gold mining but the screen, wash plant and convayors all run the same.

The work is out there if you're willing to travel where miners are running a mining operation. You got to take your talent to the ones that need it. I don't know  but it may be hard to find what you want in the lower 48.

Maybe Steve H. will come on here and point you in the right direction.

A job like what? Your experience might qualify you for work at a mom and pop mining operation, but most of those are literally family operations. You need to know somebody and they need to be looking but most have no desire to deal with the rules that go with for hire employees.

To get a job in the industrial scale mining industry you need more training. At a bare minimum you need to get MSHA certified. Even the mom and pop operations require that. Examples of training programs can be found at

Should be more opportunity in mining work when gold makes another run in price. Probably wont happen till  Wall St slides into a bear market,  some think this may happen (next year) after the November election. Many stocks are hyper inflated, way over priced and due for a  correction.  A "profound"  correction could lead to recession which would be good for precious metals and mining company expansion.

Now would be a good time to prepare for these events. BTW, anyone considering buying silver as I seriously am.

Big miners in Nevada are hiring and they provide the training and MSHA certification.

There are more than 250,000 full time miners in the United States. Most of those mines and miners do not mine gold.

There are a lot of opportunities in mining but the jobs are very specialized. Heavy equipment operators are often needed. The larger operations will provide you with the MSHA training.

Right now there is a slump in new mines opening but existing mines need workers whether they are producing or not. Small miners are usually friends and family, as Steve pointed out, so unless you have a few of those in the business you are probably going to be more successful applying with some of the bigger mining companies. You might find that to be a pretty easy way to get started considering your skill set.
