It looked interesting, but don't you think it is a little small, I'd be panning my sample bags forever.  And $50 for a pan?  Wow.  If it was $10 or $15 I might buy one to try as a clean up pan, but $50 is a little steep.  I have a large collection of the latest and greatest gold pans but I still use my round Garrett pan 100% of the time.

Saw that... Yeah it will work, gold is actually pretty easy to catch. BUT I ain't spending 50 bucks on a novelty pan......

".It's a slightly different design for an object that is used for a rather uncommon activity...."

Obviously you are not a miner or prospector....... EVERY miner uses a gold pan.  Not an uncommon activity at all.

While every miner uses a gold pan, miners aren't all that common.....

I am sure johnedoe means from a market size perspective, and he is correct. Tiny market. That does sometimes justify higher prices for specialty product. Still, no matter what, competition matters and selling a gold pan for $50 when most sell for under $20 is going to be a tough sell. If I was still doing the buying at my old shop I would not be ordering a pile of these.
