I'been looking for some new boots lately. The Reebok tactical boots just arnt doing it for me. Their hard to get on and off even though they have a side zipper...their heavy and most of all they are not water proof. The last straw was a couple weekends ago while I was trampling around the foot hills my feet got wet instantly as I had to cross several creeks. So I went to Bass Pro last week Pin pointer in hand and found one pair of boots (only one) on display that had no metal in them. Turns out that I could not be happier. They are light weight (3lbs total for the pair) Water proof (Gortex)  and most of all comfortable.  Broke them in last weekend and my feet were bone dry at the end of the day despite having stepped in water up to my ankles. The boot strings are a little on the thin side but that would be the only thing that could be improved. Just thought I'd pass it along.  http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-RCT-GORETEX-Hunting-Boots-for-Men/product/12021405012918/

I bought the Reebok tactical boots on Amazon and they fell apart before they even got fully broken in. Maybe they were counterfeit? I was disgusted with them and they sat around so long I figured I was too late to be trying for a refund and finally just tossed them out. I am still using some old 5.11 boots that walked all over Australia on my month long tour and countless miles in Nevada and California and they are still going, but getting near the end this summer I am guessing. I will check these out - thanks!

I like Red Head products and will check them out also.  Do they have a lower version?

I've been using the Keen Targhee II for the last couple of years as a mid height.  Some of the bottom is made of glued pieces that need a touch-up with glue but they are comfortable.  No metal in them.

I've been wearing Keens just on 12 months. Waterproof and comfortable. High ankle version - can't remember the model.

Been ok but won't be buying another pair as the sole is quite soft and when scraping a bit of gravel when you might have a target it hasn't taken long to shred it.

I might get another 3-4 months and they'll be dead.

Link here is useful - but maybe more for us in Oz.  https://www.prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?id=19333

I don't think so. There were lots of mid height hiking boots but I did not really spend much time looking at them. I have a bad left ankle from sprains when I was a kid so it's safer for me to go high. I'll do a follow up in a year to let you fellas know how they hold up... I've got a new pair of Mucks boots for the beach and next winter work boots. Good quality boots.

Those look like they have metal in them? They do look tough however.

If you like them I suggest you buy a couple more pairs...5:11 discontinued my favorite boots...fortunately, I discovered two extras I bought and forgot about. These should last me for several more years...

but just incase I will check the redhead model out.

I forgot to ask, is the tongue gusseted to keep the dirt and water out?

thanks for the tip
