Medium size hermit pick. It is just the right length and size. I can carry it on my belt loop...just don't fall on it-haha.

I had to take the handle out and install it with proper glue and, of course, a drywall screw...otherwise it is perfect for me.

Super- sede that was made in OZ.

Long handle... Very sharp replaceable  heads with great digging winged rear blade.

Made with some kind of annealed metal that seemed much lighter that a steel plate one I tried to make.

Unfortunately, they are no longer being produced commercially. I just have this to say it was definitely the best pick I have ever used.... and of course JP is the one who let me use my first one.

My mistake was not bringing it back with me when I had the chance!

On another note,

I hope to meet up with the gentleman that made then when I go to OZ in June....To learn how he made them. He seems like a very nice guy and I'm looking forward to meeting him.

Got lots to do while in OZ this year...counting down the days Rege.

60 days, 12 hrs, 35 minutes, 48 seconds

Currently my favorite pick is my Hodan pick with 22" handle. I spend way more time detecting than diggings so the narrow profile hangs well from my belt. The minimal amount of metal does not seem to bother my GPZ when hanging off my back hip. It does the job well for me in the Lower 48 where I do not dig as deep or as often as I did in Alaska.

In Alaska I preferred a Walco pick with 36" handle. I did lots of deep excavating in soft tailing piles and used the hoe end as much or more than the pick end. I dug way more holes back then so the pick rarely was on my belt and was often used as a walking stick to steady me on the sides of steep tailing piles.

In the photo below 1 is my old long handle Walco, 2 is a new one for backup. 3 is my current Hodan pick and 4 is a new backup. All my picks have super magnets affixed to the digging head when in use.
