FeO2digger
May have likely been mentioned before but another great source for maps is the USGS topo collection, with scans of maps back to 1884. All are downloadable free or you can purchase paper copies from store online. Leaning the navigation of site takes a bit of reading but is a great resource for huge amount of data. see https://nationalmap.gov/ustopo/ and https://nationalmap.gov/historical/ *** upon further review of Steve's post it seems the oldmaps site draws information from the USGS site with an easier nav formula. http://www.historicmapworks.com/

tvanwho
Hmm, wonder if I should trash my old USGS maps from 40 years ago? What with Google Earth and online topo maps, is there any need for these paper maps anymore unless somebody wants them? NC and Arizona mostly. LipCa
I would not throw away the old topos. You might need them when the computer world comes to an end.....

And they cost a lot as well. Nothing beats a good hard copy. I finally threw away hundreds of old typos to places I used to hunt...mostly remote areas in Idaho, Colorado, etc..that I was certain that I would never visit again...hope I was right. strick
Mike Hillis
You...threw....away....maps????? (My best incredulous voice) I could see my wife throwing away a map or two when I wasn't looking, but not a card carrying member of the male human species. Maps are like sacrosanct. You keep them forever. HA! Mike
