Beach Modes Question

Does anyone know a lot about the beach modes? Should it be actually called salt water beach modes? I just hunt freshwater and I am sure it is probably obvious to most, but would someone use the beach modes in fresh water at all? Would the equinox be best put to a normal soil mode for a fresh water beach condition? Thanks.

The beach mode is set up to handle the affects of the salt in the salt water. There's no reason to use Beach mode while hunting fresh water beach sand, wet or dry.

BTW Steve has taken the time to consolidate Minelab information about Multi IQ and how it is used by the various detect modes.  This page also includes a link to the quick start guide for the Equinox which has additional info incuding detailed information regarding differences between the 600 and 800 models.

Just use your choice of the other modes for dry sand.  Park 2, Field 2, or Gold 1/2 if you're looking primarily for gold jewelry or coins and Park 1 or Field 1 for silver or clad.  You may have to experiment with the various non-beach modes to see which one provides the best results for your intended targets or the best all-around balanced silver + gold target performance.

This answer is consistent with a similar question you had here

regarding gold hunting in dry beach conditions.

Steve.....do we have the ability to turn off salt like we do on the CTX for improved dry sand hunting or is that programed?   Its going to be interesting to see what works best on a dry sand salt beach here in Fl.

Yes, what Chase said. You turn off the "Salt Mode" by exiting "Beach Mode". The two names would be interchangeable, and "Salt Mode" might actually be better because it really is for saltwater beaches, not freshwater beaches.

In order or "hotness" :

Hottest (more sensitive to small targets, hot ground/rocks, and saltwater)

1. Gold Mode
2. Park Mode 2 and Field Mode 2
3. Park Mode 1 and Field Mode 1
4. Beach Mode 1
5. Beach Mode 2

Least Hot (less sensitive to small targets, hot ground/rocks, and saltwater)

From the article linked above:

  • Beach 1 also processes a lower weighted combination, BUT uses different algorithms to maximise ground balancing for salt. Hence being most suited for both dry and wet sand conditions.
  • Beach 2 processes a very low weighted frequency combination, using the same algorithms as Beach 1 to maximise ground balancing for salt. This search profile is designed for use in the surf and underwater.

Therefore, Beach 2 uses lower frequencies than Beach 1 which is consistent with Steve's list above.

Steve,

Will these great tips and nuggets from you and other valued contributors find their way into your "Minelab Equinox Advanced User's Guide" (a work in progress)?  There's so much valuable info scattered throughout this forum over the last months and it would be great for those of us learning to use the new machine (if it ever arrives) to have it all in one place.
