What Do You Do When You Get Your Equinox 800?

Recommended Posts

Screw the test garden I am headed to one of the trashy empty lots along Beach Blvd where Katrina wiped out so many houses and businesses. If I have a good day there I will have an awesome day everywhere else.

If I get it on a day with a minus tide I'm going to the beach.

If I get it  in the afternoon I'm going to my ranch permission

If it comes UPS it'll be here after 5:30pm and if so I'll go to my favorite 120 year old park and bring my headlamp because it'll be dark before I decide to quit for the night.

Until then I will detect my wife's purse for clad after hours and use my deus and excal everywhere else.

Head to the iron infested home site followed by a trip to the old fairgrounds that was  dug up and landscaped for soccer and ball fields. A true depth test that will be.

If I'm not in the nursing home by the time I get it . I will be straight to a park as in Oz our tiny $2 coins are so easy to lose and when you find them your coin tally skyrockets so fast .

For the record im a curious living on the edge type of guy , I turned mine on right out of the box, it had a little juice so I could see check out the beautiful display.

1. Put on one of the million screen protectors they send lol (you can cut the black overlay off the other languages so you will have a stockpile for future)

2. actually ran out of ideas lol

I'm going to introduce the Equinox to the bigger more powerful CTX 3030...maybe they can get to know each other and perhaps become close personal friends. The CTX can tell the equinox some of his  secrets to finding treasure...kinda like a debriefing of sorts. It can educate it on stable target ID at depth for example. Then  he can show her some of the treasures he has found over the years. Perhaps the Equinox will be impressed? Maybe they can go on a hunt together? and then really get to know each other? I'll even wish a bit more and maybe they can really get to know each other and  Minelab can produce some  CTXInoxes?

I got mine yesterday (a couple of days late)!  I'm a bit busy but charged it up and went out to my local beaches about 4 PM.  I used the WM8 and the headphones clipped to my cap as I do the 3030 and 7000.  I fumbled around and figured out how to connect and away I went.

It was not my best effort.  The sounds were strange to me but I heard a little one and my first target was a dime before I got to the wet sand.  Ok, it's on I think.  I swing and bring up the threshold to just audible and use Beach 2 and I hear another weak sound and I find an earring/hoop as my first wet find.  Then I walked and walked and the signals were not jumping out at me like my 3030.  I switched to Beach 1 and a bit nosier but signals are still unfamiliar.  They all seem weak to me.

Time for the next beach where I know there are more things.  I didn't change my settings.  I should have set up a test garden here and 'figured it out' but ...

Later at the end of the hunt I looked at the earphones and I'll say I could have enhanced the volume with the volume control on them.  I'll do that next time so I can use this better.

Equinox has huge amounts of volume when set right. I have poor hearing and I actually have to turn it down.

Had some business to do out in the country over the weekend and hit a recommended spot that produced in the old days. It's been hard, hard hit, so hard hit it was left to wither away. I don't mind taking a crack at those kind of sites.
At any rate, I gave it a try for a few hours and was pleasantly impressed with what I was able to dig up on this site left to die. I think I may have dug a half to one of those cheap stamped brass 49er buckles, but this one is a plain Jane. Also got a civil war era eagle button but it's seen better days. Some kind of neat buckle all twisted up, but the prize was a surface find - I believe that tiny bottle is an opium bottle? And of course, leave it to me to find a merc that's likely 100 years newer then the site!!!
      The canslaw was punishing!!

Not too many small arms shells, zero shotgun shells (amazingly!) but some BIG OLD LEAD (bottom) !!!
As large as a couple of those pieces are, there could be anything from a gold coin to a silver dollar still out there IMO 🤓

Aside from aluminum, not many conductors left!

      This poor eagle button:

      Felt good to get out!!
I did a lot better at the sale I was picking stuff up from, but there's nothing like detecting old sites

First two pics are from previous hunts at a fresh water beach with the ID Edge.
Found an area where the sand moved out a bit and made some older finds.  The 2 large rings had been in the water quite a while the small one is a newer drop probably from last year all marked 925.

and today's very first finds with the Nox.  Small Sterling Silver bracelet and the usual stuff.  The melted car looks a bit like a Delorean that perhaps did too many time travels and the large metal ball.. I have no idea what that's from. Perhaps a weight from a fishing net?

Well for me at least 😀 So another 2 hour hunt at the pounded out early 1700's Hole, abandoned prob around 1850 or 1860. I Kept circling in the general vicinity of the home site and found a few more buttons and lead bullets. I had a faint but audible signal which read 13/14 and from a good depth out came the little Georgian strap buckle. The buttons were reading at 9/10 in Field 2. The little buckle might not be a silver coin but I'm totally happy that I found it. I've never found one so small or seen one to be honest! I think the conical button might be militia issue as I've had them before with militia insignia on the front. I like that button because the shank is Wayyy off centre! I guess that one was made on a Friday 😁 I thought I might be out this weekend but its rain/thunderstorms both friggin days 😢 Good Luck to all who get out! I'm really starting to think this Nox 800 is going to be one heck of a ride!
Oh, penny in there for scale.

I got my new equinox 600 in and noticed the armrest strap is too short to make it back to the velcro.   Basically it hits the velcro but only maybe a 1/2 inch.  Anyone else with this issue and what did you do?

Had a great club hunt last Saturday - found some type of ID tag.  Been researching all week but nothing yet... This was close to a foot deep ..
