Yeah, the old machines certainly lack depth. Those coins were probably 4" max and dug plenty of trash with it! Still silver around East Tennessee too. I was lucky enough to grab a couple mercs and a barber dime in the backyard. Dug the most silver back in NJ before the park mom's complained and had to stop even though I was very conscious about leaving the area look untouched. I like your writings about the legend. I find the same things with my treasure pro set to high trash in the red soil of TN. 99% of all detectorists don't need a detector more than a couple hundred bucks or multi frequency. People like to buy what they think to be the latest and greatest only to realize you never know until you dig. Look at all the people that buy 20 dollar coin probes when a screwdriver does the exact same thing. My 1st wife was great until I met my second one! An bit later I realized could have stayed with the 1st one because she did the same thing cheaper!

Chase is correct! I've found more treasure with a Compadre than with any detector over 100 bucks! I wonder how much you lose when you don't dig. And if it breaks I'll throw it out and find another used one.

Nope. I had the latest version 15 years ago and checked often for updates. You would have to send it in for updates anyway and you're sol on that one. I liked my machine but it became too heavy for me. Good Luck hunting!

Wouldn't more junk targets be lumped in with good targets with a compressed scale. I'm used to the Whites -90 +90 VDI scale.

I think that all this work to take care of your battery probably doesn't change the amount of time or performance through the life of the battery anyway. Nobody has mentioned any performance or longevity % difference in these procedures. I'm not going to obsess over a battery that I can replace. I just use a commercial battery charger/conditioner or the factory battery advice and never noticed any problems with batteries. My 5 year old chromebook battery stays plugged in 24/7 and still has a 10 hr battery life. Damn my lawnmower battery lasted 10 years without any maintenance. IMHO have fun with your metal detector find cool stuff.
