  1. $50.00 for a piece of plastic is totally unrealistic. It's a slightly different design for an object that is used for a rather uncommon activity....but it's still a piece of plastic.
  2. Paul,if you're getting 12" to 14" in your soil with a VLF detector that's very good. The only detector that might be deeper is a Whites Dual Field or a TDI.I have a Dual Field and it's an amazing unit for the price.Of course it's a PI unit so you can't discriminate out trash but if you're hunting in the woods or a farm field that's clean you'll do OK and you'll get that depth and amazing sensitivity to small gold and silver. You can purchase a divers straight handle and tall man lower rod for a comfortably balanced unit. Good luck hunting!
  3. Thanks for the information cause I'm retired with lot's of time on my hands just itching for a new place to detect.Could this be the start of a new gold rush?
  4. The price of detectors should be a little more realistic. When you take them apart to put batteries in some of them the circuitry looks very simple compared to lets say a flat screen TV or a marine chartplotter / depthfinder GPS unit or the computer that you're looking at now. They're metal detectors.... that's all...they're simple and should be priced accordingly. One more thing, since they're a device that is used outdoors 99% of the time make them waterproof...or at least rainproof.
  5. I'm a Florida water hunter and I'd really like to find some diamond jewelry and maybe a working Rolex.
  6. Big drop in price on both the F-75 Ltd and the CZ-21 and you know companies just don't do that very often. The CZ 20 / 21 unit has been around for years. My old CZ-20 was from the late 1990s and was a fine water detector.Maybe they're making some warehouse room for a brand new detector for 2017.
  7. I had the old Fisher CZ-20 and really liked it as it was perfectly balanced in the water so the upgraded CZ-21 would be a great way to go.I also like my Tesoro Sand Shark and use it the most because it's simple and sensitive to small jewelry in my salt water environment. My Whites Dual Field really never gets used and am probably going to sell it because the entire unit floats like a cork and doesn't suit my style of water hunting. The Whites MX Sport I purchased as soon as it came out so I had to send it in for a "firmware" adjustment and now it is perfect for the dry sand here in Florida and would be a perfect choice for wading or snorkeling freshwater lakes. It's turned out to be a good all around detector but a little on the heavy side.Good luck.
  8. While I lived in Washington state in the late 1970s,before I knew anything about prospecting or metal detecting,I was fishing on a Puget sound tributary and met an elderly couple that were looking for gold in river rock. They where both carrying a couple of small sledge hammers, rock picks and burlap sacks and said gold was to be found in the quartz rock and boulders that make up the entire rivers banks and bottom. They said if you break open a likely looking rock with your hammer and find gold in it,take it home and soak it in acid to extract the gold. These Western Cascade mountain rivers are full of iron ore and quartz,a possible sign of gold.Considering their age and the rather rough/remote location on the river they seemed focused and had done this kind of prospecting before and not just out on a weekend lark.I was focused on catching a 20lb. steelhead so never followed up on this information.Good luck.
  9. Does hunting for gold jewelry in highly mineralized salt water count?I'd like to test out a new pulse unit that didn't have a floating search coil.
  10. It's nice to see people getting along who may have a different opinion on certain things in life whether it's politics or the simple hobby / obsession of metal detecting and treasure hunting. The objects found in this article were made of iron, brass and lead. Not Gold..... Gold changes everything. Gold changes everybody. The history of mankind revolves around gold and other valuables dug from the ground, but gold is # 1..... always has been, always will be. If the gentlemen in the story started finding gold in any quantity the story would have been different.
  11. Steve...A very good point about the ability to notch out coins and such on the high end of the conductivity scale. When I'm looking for jewelry I don't want to be bothered with modern clad or nails and screws on the other end of the scale.Maybe something like a Compadre with 2 disc knobs and a tiny 5 inch coil. And make it waterproof or rain resistant and lightweight. If this type of unit was marketed specifically as a jewelry detector it would fly off the shelf.
  12. I have a Whites Dual Field Surf PI, a Tesoro Sand Shark and a Whites MX Sport. This seems to be all I need for beach and water hunting in Florida for now, but for all out comfortable water / surf hunting the old Fisher CZ-20 was the best....perfectly weighted and balanced in the water. The Dual Field's entire unit floats like a cork which doesn't make sense for a dedicated water detector and the Sand Sharks coil like to flop around in the surf and is not as deep as a Dual Field.Take the raw power of a Dual Field and stick it in the same control box and same shaft and coil of a CZ20 or 21 and that would be the perfect set-up for surf hunting.I could go out and buy a new CZ-21 but it can't match the depth and sensitivity of a Dual Field or Sand Shark. The MXSport I use on windy days and is perfect for the beach especially soaked with fresh rain. The MXSport is waterproof and the most sensitive and deepest single frequency VLF unit I've ever used so I'm very happy with it.I don't wanna become a detector collector so I'll stick with these 3 for now until someone builds something much better .If a company could engineer and build a negatively weighted pulse unit, in a waterproof control box the same size as the Tesoro land units, that would be the ultimate in a water/ surf/ beach hunting detector.
  13. Most of us of a certain age and generation weren't exactly model citizens but seem to have matured into better people over the years.Young people act out for various reasons...hormones are running full blast and a young person has something to prove to the world.A lack of jobs and the bad influence of TV ( have you seen MTV lately ) , music ,computers and peer pressure to be "cool" so if the person is young......well? It's up to us older guys to teach and not to harshly punish every slight misdeed. Also you gotta remember that a kid is a reflection of his / her parents and there's a lot of screwy parents our there. If the person is older that's a different situation. We had some (many) cars broken into down here and they got the guy....58 years old and still acting like a punk kid.Has an extensive criminal record over many years so just toss his butt in jail for a long time as he is beyond any rehabbing.
  14. Better off getting a kid a Tesoro Campadre for a few dollars more and its made in America.
