  1. Pretty cool, I've had one on the wish list for some time. I read quite a few horror stories about folks buying a $1200 unit and having it get a mind of its own and disappear never to be seen again. I believe they have limits built into the gps systems to keep them in range and prevent that from happening now? Need to learn more about them for sure.
  2. I don't know anyone from Adam on here. But what a cool and I'm sure, very deserving gesture. Congrats.
  3. As Root said read the manual, then after the fourth time of reading the manual, take a look at this. http://www.detectorprospector.com/gold-prospecting-equipment/minelab-gpx-4000-4500-5000-manuals-timing-charts.htm This really helped me wrap my mind around some things.
  4. That is a lot of personal, considering a modern USS cruiser has about 330 personal. They had to have been stacked in there like cord wood? Amazing history that's for sure..
  5. Thanks Klunk that's good to know. I was using a 4500 with a 9x14 Coiltek blitz. Bigfoot I probably have just under 30 hours of detecting for gold. I usually put in 4-5 hours every time I'd go, or until my ass was dragging my tracks out.
  6. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement guys. Until finding these it was the hardest work I have ever done for nothing. "Nothing" may be a bit harsh, I did get education. As we used to say "Fish On," I'm hooked..
  7. Finally got my detector over some Gold. I Have to give a big shout out to TrinityAu Aka Ray Mills. Without his instruction and direction I'm sure it would have taken me much longer. Also met some real nice folks while finding these.. Just more to be thankful for on this weekend.
  8. The one in #9 looks like a piece a friend of mine found in North Nv. He cut it open on his slab saw and it was agatized (sp) inside and looked very cool.
  9. Steve, I have to say, you sir, deserve a vacation after that synopsis. Although I know it is just the beginning. Maybe pizza and a beer until then. Thank you for all that effort.
  10. As a complete greenhorn that will probably never be able to obtain a Z unless I sell a car or 3, I have learned much from this thread. Steve your dedication is quite a yard stick to measure up to. You, along with of course JP, and the many contributors to this thread have planted a deep seed. I can't wait to hear more of what my mealy little 4500 has to teach me. Along with my Noka Core. I love hearing up to 4 different targets with that core in the same hole. I say again I'm learning..
  11. That's a bummer, YouTube reaches a lot of people and helps to sell big $$$ in products.
  12. I sent Chris an email and got validated today. What a great score, the things dreams are made of for sure..
  13. I wish I could view it. I was on the ph placing an order with him, when he had just gotten off the ph with his friend that found the discovery.
  14. Beings I always seem to try to carry the kitchen sink, I have found my pack to be killing me. I feel like the fng in Platoon with unnecessary crap. Between the water in the camel back and the minelab battery then a nail pouch on another belt that has a pointer and scoop. A few snacks in the pack, gps for marking anything important, oh and lets not forget the pick. I have even been leaving my little first aid kit back in the truck to avoid that bit of weight. But that needs to change. I too have patched myself up too many times to count with superglue. Quick Clot is always in my packs as well. The last time I should have just got stitched up properly as I still have nerve damage up to my thumb. At least the water going away makes things get lighter, and when its done so am I. I feel like my ass is dragging my tracks out half the time. I think I need to lose the finds nail pouch belt and do something different to carry all my square nails and lead out in. I'm always open to suggestions.
  15. Tagging meself for this good info.. That link above with the detailed timing is a HUGE help. Thank you Steve for putting the effort into that. Great flash card.
  16. I have to say after reading Rays book twice now. Then spending 2 days with him in the field for some geology training it was time and money well spent. Actually it was information over load, as he is a wealth of information and knowledge. Its impossible to put 40+ years of training into a few hours, but he does a heck of a job trying. I must say I had a ball with him, and feel I could call him a friend. He wants you to succeed and have fun doing it. I look forward to a bit of detector training on my new gpx4500 with him in the near future as well. I just thought this post should be bumped for those that may be thinking about needing some training, or looking for more good information. S.Dee
  17. Having shot target archery all my life as well as lots of pistol ammo burned. I find it odd that some of these detector company's haven't made custom size grips/removable panel's for their machines, after all its not a one size fits all in the hand world.. With all the different type of molding material used in the gun world as well as custom archery grips. I find it odd guys swinging a loop aren't doing the same if they are that uncomfortable?
