  1. Great data, even for a complete newbe like myself. Thank you for the tremendous effort you took putting that together. It had to be a PITA..
  2. ^^^^ Yeah Head I looked this mine up and it was Gold primary and Copper secondary so that's probably the case. I will have it looked at. Then slab a bit more and maybe cut come cabs to see how they polish up. Who knows? It looks cool none the less Like I used to always say. "Don't take much to entertain some kids." lol I'm at the bottom end of the State right now so it will have to wait a few days..
  3. Man I should have paid more attention in my geology class 40 years ago, if they even had one.. lol. I tired to engrave it no luck, took my carbide scribe to it and got some dust off of it and couldn't really detect an odor at all. I did put my tongue on it and could get the metallic feeling that would make your filling's sing. I'm interested to see if it will take a polish as It could make some very cool cabs if so.. Thanks for the feed back guys.
  4. Well I took a nail to the specks and tried to dig hell out of them, but nothing came off and nothing turned black. Then I cut these slabs off of the little piece and I think I could engrave my name in the stuff and it is gold in color and dense. and with I scratch it, it shines up?
  5. Thanks for all the views and advise. I want to take it to my slab saw and cut a slab off and see what it reveals. I did break off a small piece and crush it up and pan it around a bit. I ran a magnet through it and not much of anything stuck to it. I will do the nail trick also.. I did show it to a couple local rock hounds and they where kind of blow away by it, they also couldn't believe how heavy it was either.
  6. Thank you Chris that was what I was thinking as well, that it was Pyrite. I could take better pics with the Cannon on mico just more of a hassle to load. A friend got a hit on a nice chunk of Quartz with Gold/Pyrite stings all through it as well. Looks cool though. Guess my best find of the day was my Ore Cart Rail spike..
  7. I found this in a Gold Mine tailing pile. My machine went into major overload when I pulled it out. It is extremely heavy and you can see gold like flecks all through it, along with quartz. Its really hard to explain but before the cell ph captures the photo, it changes the image to the point that you can see so much more in the stone. I had read that digital cameras can "spot gold?" But it was more reading than I wanted to do on the subject. But it defiantly transforms it in the image before it captures the below photos. I am wondering if its worth having someone at the local college look at it, if in fact they have a geology program? Not sure if it has value beyond being a VERY heavy door stop.. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
  8. ^^^^ I agree, Just found trash yesterday and some extremely hot soil that caused it to overload, not to mention lots of hot rocks. Still trying to learn my way around everything which is fun in itself. The soil I dug out to pan at home but nothing in it so far. Chunks of it wanted to stick to my magnet so maybe some iron ore or something? Kind of yellow gold in color. I certainly don't know my soil well.
  9. Well trying to teach myself a thing or 2 about my new machine. I went into a creek bed near my home in Redding that had just a small amount of water flowing in it. I discovered someone must have shot lots of quail in the area back in the day. As every little pocket I would detect had a pinch of about #8 shot in it. Not to mention a few split shot in every other bedrock pocket. Also lots of hot rocks in there as well. So I know if this baby finds that, it will find the yellow stuff. If I can just get on the right spot of earth. Think I'll try it in the Sierra Mts tomorrow in hopefully a little less trashy area.
  10. Good thing it has a curve to it. You get that thing stuck to the side of the pickup it may be a permanent fixture.. lol
  11. Love reading great story's like that. Can't wait to find my first crumb..
  12. How funny I have spent the last hour looking at a new day pack to use just for detecting. And here you post up a very nice KISS post. Beats sharing the Coyote calling pack or spending unnecessary money on another one. Thank you Steve you are a wealth of information.
  13. 1515Art those are stunning. Amazing talent.
  14. Sweet Gretsch, My brother has quit a guitar collection. About all I can do is strum a few chord's. Too many interest my self. From Hot Rods, to shooting target Archery, and trying to find time to shoot some fly line. Cars take up a lot of $ and time. But this prospecting is something I have always been drawn to. I find it fascinating when learning about the old timers, etc. My cousin that lived in Alaska and just recently passed away always told me. "Bear story's are like Gold story's up here. everyone has one."
  15. Thank you guys for all the wonderful encouragement. I cant wait to get out in the hills or desert a bit. I feel kind of self conscious digging in the local park but I will get it figured out. Yes I filled in my divits lol. I sure appreciate all the help and information everyone generously gives. I'm an addict
  16. My Noka FORS CoRe showed up this morning 2 days after I placed my order with Chris at AOBP, I have basically a big goose egg of experience at running a detector but have been crash reading everything I can find about these machines since reading Mr Mills Detecting for gold book. I took the machine to a town park and it seemed to be giving me constant signal's with every swing of the coil but one sounded a little zipper than the other grunts and I dug this ring literally 10 minutes into the park and my first dig. I had the sensitivity at 80 in D3 and cant remember what it came up on the target id as. I have so much to learn, I am a bit overwhelmed. But I was pretty happy to find the 10k gold ring no matter the half doz pull tabs I dug afterwards. Maybe in a year or two I will figure out what they sound like LOL. Now to find me a little nugget
  17. Thank you Dean I ordered the Pro Package. Tracking says I should have it Thursday. Looking forward to my learning curve, as long as I don't have to take a semester of night classes to learn how to use it LOL.. But then again I'm all about learning it. Love to find a crumb or 3..
  18. As a complete newbe I have to thank the folks that put in the long work reviewing and providing information that helped me decide on a new machine. Mr Mills, aka trinityau started my juices flowing so I pulled the trigger on FORS CoRe. I placed an order with Az Outback last night and first thing this am Chris called me just to confirm everything was a go, and ask if I had any questions ect. I was very impressed by this as in this day and age so many folks forget who is buying and selling. I'm looking so forward to studying in the mean time, and once again grateful for all the previous research and information posted here as well as other locations.
