Yes I remember the awful release of EQ.

I don't think everyone does it.

Ie, apple, they do not release any information before available  or if they do, the specs, pictures etc are shown.

Any clues/ideas on if the Vanquish is going to be better than the Equinox 800? I was just about to buy my wife a EQ600 for beach detecting together. I may hold off now if the Vanquish is going to be better and give her my 800 instead...

Get the 600, put a 15" coil on it and you have beach machine, for her, for you, as a main go to or as a backup. It's a little heavy so a swingy-thingy might also be required. You can easily pay off the machine with what you find today rather than waiting for months on "what might be".

I use my 600 with the 15" exclusively in the wet and dry at the beach and it's done well for me. I know many will argue with me about settings and programs but all I've ever done is use beach 1 for dry, beach 2 for wet. If it chatters too much I turn down the sensitivity and ground balance it again. I can't think of a better machine than the Nox for just going and detecting. Best to whatever you decide.

Equinox release was pretty much par for the course.  I anticipated every schedule setback and the waiting lists as ML ramped up a completely new production line, so I was not surprised and tempered my expectations accordingly.

Whites - waited for them to release the MX Sport.  They rushed it and then had to send it in for the Firmware update to make it work the way it should have upon release.

Nokta Impact - In January 2017 IIRC, advertised an expected March release. It finally showed up in May.  Had fun cancelling my pre-order in April so I could get my money from the dealer that had been holding on to it since February (learned my lesson and will never lay down money for a detector preorder again as getting my money back was a lot harder than plopping it down in the first place).

XP Deus Version 4 Update and HF coils - First announced in Fall 2015, finally arrived Spring 2017.  After a couple bug fix releases they finally got a stable version on the streets a few weeks after the first final "non-beta" version was released.

Garrett AT Max - finally released in September 2017 after several months of dribs and drabs of information until folks could get their hands on it only to realize it was a warned over AT Pro with wireless and was tweaked to run just a tad too sparky for the loyal AT crowd.  Many went back to their trusty AT Pros or AT Golds or abandoned Garrett for Nokta or Minelab once the Equinox finally did show up.  [Garrett has the means to innovate, hope they realize this and stop resting on their AT series laurels befors ML, Nokta, and even XP eat their lunch].

So, yeah, Minelab is not unique in this regard...

Ths only certainty is that it will be released when ML thinks it is ready despite the moans and cries of impatient detectorists the world over.

Same as last time.

At least I am finally content with my collection of 3 primary detectors (2 VLF, 1 PI), and watching from the sidelines with amusenent this time around.

As far as apple is concerned,  they are likely as complicit in "unauthorized" information leaks before official product unveilings as much as any other tech company and like the free publicity from the media playing up demand by showing "product shortages" and long lines on release day.  Apple is very savvy about making it look real.

People with means are just naturally impatient about getting their hands on their tech toys, and the tech firm marketing departments whether they are phones, cameras, or metal detectors, know how to manipulate this impatience to their advantage.

Agree with Strick's advice.  Go with the 600 as backup and for your honey.  15" is good for coverage, but I have found myself just sticking with the 11", even at the beach.

The Vanquish will be lower end but is likely to have Multi IQ and may be waterproof, so if you want to save a few bucks vs. the 600 for a companion/backup machine to your 800, it might be the ticket.

However, don't bet on it being released much before Christmas and it will likely be in high demand with low availabilty, so it could be quite awhile after that before you can actually swing one, if the Equinox roll out is any indicator.

Minelab published back in May exactly where Vanquish fits in the lineup but still the speculation continues. But Minelab themselves are telling you “better than X-Terra but below Equinox” in the lineup.

From Codans Management Briefing & Site Tour Presentation. I guess there's more money making machines for the bottom end market than the top. Looks like no zed replacement just yet.

The sales figures by region were really interesting.

Yep.  They're trying to grab the lucrative entry level detectorist market.  Priced low enough to become almost an impulse buy for some guy taking his family on a beach vacation who says, hmm maybe I can find some treasure like those guys on TV as he walks past one in Walmart.  Pretty decent starter rig, may or may not lead to a more serious investment in the hobby.  But, hey, they got someone to drop $350 or so for a detector who would have been a lot less likely to to spend $650.

With the Multi IQ  logo being present in the advertising/promo so far,  even if it’s two frequencies with Multi IQ processing at a $350-550 price point, it’s really going to shake up that price range.  The others will be scrambling to get a water proof machine, let alone multi freq, to the market to compete.

The NokMak Simplex seems like a viable competitor but with early info saying a second quarter release it seems likely that they are still working out some kinks in the production or possibly software.

I really hope its no red . If that one is then i hope its the lowest of the 3 machines of the type. And the 440 and 540 are different .

Maybe they will be colour coded like the Terra's have been and the 540 will be black.

Red looks to much like a toy .

Though it may be priced like a Terra,  it will likely be closer in performance to an Equinox.  Hence, the issues you are having with your Equinox that have you longing for the Terra (e,g., the EMI susceptibility on the high tops) are likely to exist with the Vanquish as well.  You will probably gain nothing by going with the Vanquish if you already own an Equinox other than having a cost effective backup unit, so color scheme will likely be a moot point.
