I was thinking about this QED I do recall Reg Wilson talking about for the QED to be sold in the USA it would need modifications to have resistance to the EMI from the power network there, seeing AU/NZ are 230v and 50hz which the QED is tuned for and USA 110v with 60hz.   Unless this one has had that mod, it will likely be noisy in the USA near power sources, It's probably best to get the serial number and ask the QED manufacturer if it's good to use this in the US.

It could even be why it's for sale.

Fortunately it's free to get that fixed up, also the updates to the current model QED are free too and it has a 5 year warranty from the date of original purchase so it would still be under warranty, it would just need sent back to Australia to get done.  I've just sent mine back for the latest round of updates, shipping from NZ to OZ was only $14 NZD.  About $10 US I guess.
