Simon, I dare say you found something rarer than any coin these days... a place that for some reason has never been detected for coins! That is quite literally what it used to be like in “the good old days” when any park or sports field gave up handfuls of good coins in short order! Good on you, great finds!!

I'm pretty happy about it  🙂  I've barely dented it yet, Not even one tenth of it has been detected.

Rarer yet, your digging saucer size holes and no one is running you off!  I know you filled them in and I can't even see where you've been.  Good amount of coins there for your outing.  GaryC/Oregon Coast

haha yea, I filled them all in, I couldn't even tell where I'd been... the soil was very soft being winter, it was frozen first thing in the morning but defrosted quickly, it was quite a warm day today for this time of year.  You'll notice once I swapped to the Equinox my hole sizes grew as I got a shovel to do the work 😉  This field doesn't seem to get used anymore, the council just keep it mowed I guess in case some kids go on it to play and to keep the place tidy.  I have trouble working out exactly where the Target is with the 15x12 coil, it seems to always end up behind where I think it will be, even when I try dig further back it's still behind my hole if I do a small hole 🙂

I kinda hate you even though I want to be you...it's a weird feeling.

Nice finds!

Thanks everyone, I wish they made a 20" coil for the Equinox, this sort of situation it would be perfect, almost no junk, no mineralisation 🙂

I hope I can do as well tomorrow!

Simon,

This will give you a good workout on the detectors you have!  There are more things for you to discover about them rather than getting a new toy or turning a new one on.

You'll hardly be able to sleep now wondering what is still ahead.  There is also that ugly thought that pops up about someone else now detecting your spot so you have to get to those coins first.

This would be an ideal family hunt.  Your wife will be hooked and she will start doing your research.

Mitchel

I went out today for a couple hours to a school not visited previously. The old wood chip tot lot was the target area. All I ended up finding were 4 quarters, 2 nickels, 7 pennies, a small button off something, a rivet off some clothing or a shoe, and a strange metal piece that showed up in the foil range. There were indeed some junk items today but not in the picture (can slaw, a zipper, foil, a few pencil tops). I had the feeling someone else had been at this spot before because it was really quiet. Well they didn't get these! It's getting more and more difficult in these places and the finds are more difficult to pull. All the other counties around us where there are probably good things located within school grounds have a strict "KEEP OUT" policy and don't allow any kind of public activity on school grounds.

Couple years ago I hit one of the swim holes not too far away and in a 10-15 sq ft area hit nickel after nickel......... Was thinking someone was trying to drown their kid by stuffing coins in their pocket and telling them to go for a swim.

What a day it has been, Working and then taking a break for an hour so I had to do a little hunting with the 800.
Today I went back to a local park just to kill a little bit of time before I had to go to meet someone.
I pulled into the park at about 4 pm and grabbed the 800.
Turned it on and went to Park 1 with factory setting, did noise cancel, and started swinging.
The first 3 hits were all aluminum and the 4th was a bolt from who knows what.
The 4th hole made a noise that I had never heard before, a chatter and the ID number changed from a strong 36 to a 21 during the noise.
I knelt down to start digging as the depth showed 3 arrows and I proceeded slowly to reach whatever was down there.
Because of the chatter I did not truly know what to expect and moved the dirt slowly as to find the reason for the chatter.
To my surprise I noticed an edge of something in the dirt, and I pulled more dirt from the sides of the edge so I could get a grip on it.
I pulled it out of the ground and to my surprise it was a 1902 dime, it had seen better days but it was still a sight to see.
I then hit a area where someone must of lost all of his change and someone else's at the same time.
The more I pulled off the ground from under the grass, the more my pin pointer detected.
I could not find a place to set the pin pointer without it going off. It took about 15 minutes to pick out the coins from the grass.
I looked at the time and had to leave while having so much fun, but had to get back to work.
All the coins in the picture ranged from 1902 to 2018.
I think I am getting the hang of this detecting thing and can't wait to get out again. Just don't tell my wife because she gets mad.

On the advice of others on this forum, I called Minelab today to inquire about the play I've had in the shaft on my Equinox since day one. When I called back in 2018, they wanted me to send the whole detector in to get looked at. This time they said they would send the three pieces my way, and I just need to send the originals back to them. Has that been your experience for those in the same situation?

As said I like both the Sport and the Nox face . The great thing about them as you hunt you can really look at the face of each and know what you have notched out . What makes the Nox even better over the Sport is you can notch out one number at a time .
Oh I know the Nox has so many fine qualities over the Sport it will never have but like the Nox it has a pretty face .
I don’t know why but a pretty face always tugs at my heart strings and a detector is no different.
