Vanquish Where Are You?

Recommended Posts

My reason for asking this question is because Minelab dealer like Rob’s Detectors don’t have none to sell.

If I never get one it will be a cold day in hell before I go to Dick’s Sport to buy one. I don’t know why are what’s the thinking of Minelab by limiting it to a big chain and not to the little guy at the same time.

I like the personal service like Rob and others like him offer . I’ll pass on some guy that don’t know what end is up and nothing about what he’s selling.

What does it matter for an entry level detector in the hands of an experienced detectorist such as yourself?  I have personal relationships with my dealers , and would rather give them my business, too.  But in the case of the vanquish I don't need personal service to just buy a box containing something I already know how to operate.  If you want it now, ML has made the marketing decision to get the detector on big box sports stores as an impulse buy for the novice detectorist, the target market segment.  Not the specialist dealer catering to us detector geeks and geezers.  They don't expect to sell many of these to hard core detectorists so will focus on the Dicks and the Walmarts.  This is simply sound Buisness 101.  And frankly ML is more business focused than customer focused and that is a key difference between ML and, say, Nokta.

My friend and I use that term even if our paths never cross. It’s because I like what you say and how you say it. I think of others on here the same way because they too just want to help others.

I look at Rob being he’s around the same age as one of my sons as a friend. I see no reason for me to be in a rush to run out and buy one . I’ll just sit back and wait it out but if I pass on before I get one no big deal. No need to worry I don’t think the world will stop turning!

The Best To You My Friend!

Chuck,

If you are worried about passing on before you get a Vanquish................and if you have grandkids that would like to detect with their granddaddy right now.......or you have other younger newbies that just want to go have fun with their favorite role model, what are you waiting for??????

I know Rob personally and I guarantee you he would tell you how much he would like to sell you a Vanquish, (although the $30 to $60 dollars he makes off of the deal is minuscule.)   He is an incredibly good human being and would really prefer that you spend some priceless quality time with your younger buddies whenever you can.The Vanquish is a really good entry level detector series that feels really lightweight and is super easy to be successful with right out of the box (especially the 340). I have handed a Tek Minuteman, Fisher F19 and my ORX to some teenagers and they were overwhelmed. I handed my Nox 600 to my daughter  and youngest son (both 21 and over at the time and with some previous experience) and not only were they overwhelmed, they were also very unhappy with the ergonomics. She, my youngest son and an eleven year old newbie that I know have all tried the Vanquish 340 and each gave it giant thumbs up for how they understood what it was telling them (they found some good clad quickly) and especially for how comfortable it was to swing and use. Listen to Chase.  If you were buying an intermediate or professional level detector (with a nice profit margin) buy it from Rob or Gerry or Bill, etc.

I am kid and grandkid poor but not one as of yet want to metal detect .

I’m no rush to bay a Vanquish but I just like to try something new.

Over the years I always told everyone to buy the best they can afford and up to now I do that myself.

I find myself not wanting to dig as deep when younger and that’s why you see me buying the Simplex and wanting to buy the Vanquish. Now I just have fun playing with a new toy. It’s like when I go fishing anymore I don’t put bait on the hook.

I started this post early this morning and here it is late in the afternoon.

I was planning on buying the 540 pro pack. I think people is selling the new line of cheaper detectors short because of its price. Their thinking is I’m paying less so I’m getting less.

Well if they pull out their pocket change and buy one they then may question themselves . That question would be why am I spending on a high dollar detector when this half price one does the same.

The detector I just got back before the speaker went out was punching a hole as deep as my Nox 800 that I sold.

To keep from starting a fire storm I’m relating only to the area I detect in .

The situation is no different over here in Oz, no immediate availability from regular detector shops or even Minelab's main outlets (probably only covering pre-orders).  Though we have large camping shops here like Anaconda which do actually have stock, so obviously marketing them to the wider public hoping to get them interested in the hobby vs those that already own a more advanced detector.

Chuck, The thing is depth is never the issue anymore with detectors built within the last 5 to 10 years.  Depth is driven mainly by coil size and transmit power not by the detector electronics and signal processing capability as far as vlf ib detectors are concerned.  An ACE 250 will punch as deep as an Equinox.  The question is (for experienced detectorists) how does it perform in thick junk (recovery speed), how well does it mitigate ferrous falsing, how accurate does it ID non-ferrous at the limits of detection depth, how versatile is it for varying site conditions (salt and mineralization), and how well does it do over the entire range of target types, conductivities, shapes, and sizes (mainly driven by the capability to operate at more than one discrete frequency).  That is what separates the value units from the the more expensive "pro" detectors that serous detectorists are seeking out.

That being said, are the Simplex and the Vanquish decent detectors?  You bet and they perform better than their similarly priced competion (e.g., the Ace series) as far as some of the other performance parameters (beyond depth) that I mentioned above.  Are they as versatile as an Equinox 600, Anfibio, or ORX?  Nope.  So I don't think detectorists who know their stuff are overlooking these new value offerings, they simply understand the limitations of these new detectors and realize that regardless of their attractive price point, they don't add anything to their existing detector arsenals so why bother acquiring them.

Therefore, ML is focusing on the newbie/novice and those folks don't even know they are looking for a detector until they run across one at Dicks and see this shiny box on the shelf that says "Multi IQ" and they think - wow that must be some new magic technology that will net me some instant treasure at a rock bottom price just like those guys on TV.  Sold!

Go write this down wherever you like that Chuck totally agree with you.

After it’s all said and done the first question they ask on a new detector is how deep will it detect .

I guess I’ll just have to limp through life with my ORX, Simplex and my one day Vanquish. That’s unless something new that catches my eye 👁 I can’t live without.

 The Best!

You can't fool me, Chuck, I bet you don't limp but leap like a Gazelle as you gracefully detect your secret honey holes and show your grandkids just how it should be done.
