Want A Larger Coil For The MDT 8000

I have had mine for a year now and it is the only detector I use now. My only thoughts are the 9 x 11 coil works great in the water but I wish he would offer a 12" coil for the damp, wet and wash. It also would help shrink those fields while relic hunting.

That would make sense if they were made and shipped to order, not if they made 100 and boxed them up in a store room waiting for sale and just grabbed any box out of the pile when an order is placed.  Either way it looks like the number sold is possibly under 100 and a few owners are second hand units too even though such a small number possibly made.

I hope they turn out to be a good detector and have great success, although with the pending release of the Fisher....

Some guy went on a NZ prospecting forum and tried to promote them saying they've made a special coil for NZ conditions for the detector which put a bad taste in my mouth knowing it was a lie.  Not sure if he's associated with them or not, I hope not.

I too have not heard of a NZ coil. I’m surprised Dew had no mention of this also. I too have had great service from Dimitar in regards to a couple minor issues inflicted by myself. I tightened the battery cap to tight and stripped the threads on the cap. I received a replacement almost instantly. I have 6 months left on my warranty but if the past year is any indication of the detectors build quality, it will not matter if it runs out. Seems to be built very well. On the issue of coils, I just feel my hands are tied when hunting with my friends using the ever so popular Equinox and the CTX, when in the wash and damp sand. In the water the stock coil is fine. It just does not seem right to pay $1500.00 + for a detector that has no choice of optional coils. On this subject I have worn my welcome out with Dimitar as now he will not answer my text, haha. I am relentless on this topic. Thanks for the link phrunt as it is very insightful. It appears to be on the up and up to me.

Hi Carolina. Dont know if you saw it, but the above has all been cleared up for readers in the following topic in the Tarsacci Forum here. All good now and explained in link from Phrunt below.

A 12 inch coul would be nice.....as would a small one for trashy areas, but then again I would probably procrastinate more as to which coil to use. Its only been a year so no doubt something will appear on the horizon!

For me i could go either way on a larger coil.   Id assume it would get not only coverage but depth..... and maybe even better TID.   BUT..... in the water the shaft size is in between the Nox and CTX ..... so its a little larger than i want.   IF there was a larger coil...... id have to have that shaft reduced in size...... it really displaces a LOT of water.   When you get a long shore current going..... its gets tuff to move.  I personally would like to see a thinner single lower shaft up to the control shaft....... a two piece.

Sadly it appears that Dimitar is more interested in turning out another MDT model than  offering additional accessories for the MDT 8000 that is already on the market. I wish he could see the need for a six inch and twelve inch coil for the existing MDT. My fingers are crossed.

The more I’m using the MDT in iron laced sites, learning its audio language it’s auctully a good unit with very fast recovery speed. I’m starting to see separation as fast as a Deus, didn’t at first but after a long period of learning the MDT audio language it’s extremely fast with separation up there with a Deus.

Can see a need for a smaller coil in areas needing better separation,   Not too small.  Smaller elliptical would be nice, plan on visiting Dimitar soon. We had discussed going on a relic hunt up in gold county, maybe a little nugget hunting as well. I’ll ask about a smaller coil, hopefully he’s got something for us in the works.

Paul, I am more interested in a 12” coil for relic and coin as well as the damp and wet salt sand. Any help would sure make many people happy.

Hello Thomas,

I’ll definitely ask Dimitar,  if the future brings us a larger or smaller coil.  I could use both, for the type of hunting I do.

Dimitar lives close to gold county, fortunately I have a couple of friends owning large acreage properties up in gold county.  Both historical areas, haven’t tried the MDT there and since I’m going there soon felt it would be a great area for Dimitar to test his equipment.

I know Dimitar is doing his best,  And very grateful having an MDT as it’s definitely deeper than my other top end models. If other coils do come out, that’s great. If not, I understand and greatly appreciate what he has accomplished.

if I hear anything,  will definitely keep you posted.  Hope the year brings you good health and terrific finds.

Paul

I dont know if it would make a difference to change the shape ...maybe help clean up the TID some.    IF.... if i had a wish...... mine would be thinner middle and lower shaft.   It can be a lot to push around out there if the water is rough or swift.   The shaft size is between the Nox and CTX..... so it can displace a lot of water.  Light as heck out of the water...... but in the water you notice it when trying to push it around.   He sure make a machine to last thou.   Im hoping the next one is a tad more waterproof as well..... just for peace of mind.

Welcome to the Detector Prospector forum! Anything remotely related to metal detecting and prospecting for gold may be posted here. Forums for other subjects may be found here. The main goal here - to inform and educate. Please keep threads and posts on topic (metal detecting and prospecting). Off topic posts may be moved or deleted without warning.
This is the oldest forum here, at one time the on,y forum. As such it is a catch all for a wide range of subject. However, after about page 6, I move some posts to sub-forums for archival purposes. For instance, posts about specific Minelab detectors get moved to the Minelab Forum, and posts about specific Garrett detectors get moved to the Garrett Forum, etc. This makes it easier for people to find posts about specific subjects in the future, rather than sifting through everything here.
The main goal of the forum is to share information. If you see something interesting on another forum or anywhere else, please link to it. Mention any brands you like. The only goal here is to inform and anything interesting or informative is not only allowed but desired as long as it is on topic.
While visiting this forum please act as if you are visiting my home. Treat others with decency and respect. Politics is not strictly prohibited, but limit it to items of concern such as public meeting notices, comment periods, etc. Any post mentioning any politician by name is going to be deleted, period. No detector wars - every detector serves a purpose for somebody. For general editorial purposes this forum is treated as if it is a magazine.
Do not place ads for your detector or equipment for sale here. That is only allowed in the Classifieds and is only for participating members - read the rules.

A note about the Google Ads - I know we all hate ads but they pay for the website. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. All I can do is to promise not to go overboard with them.
Special Note To Dealers - Dealers are welcome here, with minimal guidelines. Please read My Policy Regarding Dealers
If you have problems logging in or any other issues while on the forum Personal Message (PM) me or send me an email. Information on other general forum use and features can be found here.

Welcome to the DetectorProspector forums! These forums are normally "on topic" only. This forum is the one exception in that it has no real topic except getting to know other people. That being the case you can discuss pretty much anything here but the overriding rules apply more than ever. There is to be no posting of anything that is going to be disruptive (no trolling).

To reiterate - the Prime Directive on all these forums is decency and respect. If you can't comport yourself like a decent adult, I promise you will not last long on these forums.

The Classifieds ad forum is provided as a free service for active, involved forum members. Ads may not be placed on the forums but only here in the Classifieds. Members will have to have made at least ten posts over a minimum of a 30 day period on the forums before being allowed to post in the Classifieds. Making worthless posts to run up the number does not count. Herschbach Enterprises is not responsible for issues resulting from the use of the Classifieds forum. As always, buyer beware!
No negative comments. If you see an issue, contact the seller or a moderator via pm. Notify everyone when the item has been sold. Use the edit function to modify the original post to do so or add a post saying the item has been sold. Protect yourself. Be careful about giving any sensitive information to prospective buyers. Advertising deemed inappropriate or out of place for any reason may be deleted without warning. The standard Forum Terms of Use apply. Dealers are welcome as long as the items advertised are somehow involved in products related to the prospecting and metal detecting world. Dealers must identify themselves as such. I ask that dealer ads be limited to genuine special deals like closeouts and used detectors. See my general policy regarding dealers for details. 2/17/19 update - Dealers may have no more than two ads at any one time, and ads not updated at least every 30 days may be removed.

The Classifieds is designed to protect you from unwelcome contact. Only registered forum members can contact you via PM (Personal Messaging). This does mean if you want people who are not forum members to be able to contact you that you need to put that information in your ad.

Be as descriptive as possible and always try to include clear pictures of clean items. Many ads are ruined by blurry pictures or not taking the time to clean items before sale. Be sure to make note of any remaining transferable warranty.

Review your ad one last time after you place it to be sure everything is accurate. You have the ability to edit it at any time.
Go to your ad and at bottom next to quote button hit edit You should be able to edit everything there, including the title. The Tag selection lets you put For Sale, Wanted, and other mini banners on your ad. Put up a SOLD! banner when your item sells or ends and the ad will be deleted within a couple days. Ads by non-dealers may be deleted by the admin after 90 days if no attempt is made to update them or otherwise indicate they are still active.  In order to not have to check back to see if somebody has posted in response to your ad, be sure and check the slider control in lower left "Notify me of replies" . You will be sent a message notifying you of any responses.
A big tool for sellers is the eBay sold listings. Go to eBay and search for what you plan on selling. Then click the "used" box on left. Then click the "sold listings" box. Now you can see all similar items that sold recently and what they sold for, giving you a realistic way of checking current market value. Oddball items unfortunately may not have enough sales volume to get help this way.
A note about the Google Ads - I know we all hate ads but they pay for the website. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. All I can do is to promise not to go overboard with them.

You can edit but not remove posts. To have a classified post/thread removed, simply edit the original post and change the Tag (the little gray and red banner) from For Sale to SOLD! The ad will then be removed within a day or two. I like to leave the sold notice up for a short time so people who were looking know a sale was made instead of the item just disappearing.
You may also PM or email me to request removal. Or change the title to say SOLD!
Ads may be deleted by the admin after 90 days if no attempt is made to update them or otherwise indicate they are still active.

Almost all I've read here for several months now is about one detector brand vs the same brand model questions, comparisons,  personal reviews and such.
I thought most of these should be on that brand forum(which I follow religiously) and this was a forum about showing finds and and talking about new areas, how to and so on.....
Sorry If I'm wrong.....please say so and I'll fade away.
