my back got very sore after a couple of hours

I use CBD/THC pain cream every time after I go hunting. Takes the pain off my shoulders, arms and back better than any medication I've ever tried. Without it I would probably already sit in the wheelchair by the way I abuse my body when prospecting. Of course it is legal here in California, I don't know if it is available in NZ or Au. But this stuff works like a miracle.

Hi Simon,

Back problems suck. Because you don't look injured you get no sympathy from anyone. Better to have a broken leg. IF its bulged discs its just going to take time (probably a good month or two)

I used to see massage therapists in times past and that seemed to work but the last time the back went it was a bulged disc. Tried everything and in the end it was a chiropractor that sorted things out. And i hate chiropractors, but apparently my hips were out which was putting pressure on the discs. Anyhow all good now.

Anyway got a bit sidetrack here, as i logged on to re read a bit of information about running the zed in manual ground balance. Hope i can find the thread were that was mentioned.

Heading off in the morning for a few days detecting. Going to one spot where some guys reckon they have smashed the area using the zed. Little scary knowing they have used the zed on this patch in "Normal" Hope the x-coils find me something they have missed.

Good luck with the back, hope it comes good for you.

Imagine having to give up detecting because of a crook back .....not a nice thought.

Simon,

When you told me your back was feeling that good ... it was probably time to just enjoy it.  Don't use it next time when it is feeling good.

Jin said some good things there about the 'adjustment' that my chiropracter friend is able to do with me.  There is another specialist you may want to see to get another opinion and that is a DO.

My coil is scheduled to be spliced tomorrow.  I went back by the shop on Friday and he was doing another coil for someone.  I don't know the detector but I'm ok with the wait because of jury duty and the weather is going to be bad for the next couple of days also.  It gives me a longer time to think of the first place to go.

My choices are a really pounded hillside where many little nuggets have been found with GBs and Zeds, a relatively open desert area that has a lot of hotrocks where we picked hundreds of nuggets after GPX searches and pushes or a couple of more distant options that have gullies, deep washes and difficult coil swings.  I'll get to them all eventually but which one first.

One nugget will do.  I'm not expecting JW results!  haha

Hi Phrunt, only cure for a crook back is more ZX gold...…….just look at JW swingin about like an 18yr old...........crikey I think mines goin out in sympathy😉

What rotten luck. You have just bought the heaviest detector on the market and your back goes out. Most unfortunate timing.

Simon waited as long as he could to buy a Z and 'played' a long time with his back digging coins and other things.  Now he just has to take it 'easy' and take advantage of going SLOW.

Find yourself a spot and don't move your feet and take half swings.  When you are done there take a step and repeat.

It might seem that the world is giving you lemons right now but it's time for you to make lemonade.

Fred having owned a 7000 I can say for sure that although the Z may not have caused Simon's back problem, it sure would not have helped.

The weight of the 7000 can be alleviated to a certain degree with the assistance of a bungee cord, however such a heavy machine builds up inertia in the swing and wants to keep moving in one direction. You have to stop and then reverse the direction of swing. This requires reverse muscle pressure at the end of each swing, leading to fatigue, and in some cases actual muscle damage.

Having tested prototype detectors since the 1980s, many of which were heavier than the machines that made it to production, I have suffered wrist, elbow, shoulder and back problems from some of these 'beasts'.

One can only hope that Minelab's next top of the range detector is half the weight.

If it is not lighter like the Monster and 800 then it will receive limited sales.  Will 'lighter' improve coil control?  Will a coil wiggle help?
