AT Pro Vdi Vs Equinox 800 Vdi

Recommended Posts

9" dime on AT with stock coil is fringe. Like to see the same test with same size coils.

The point is, a classic vlf detector will show a very deep signal for both low conductive and high conductive coin at the end of its VDI range or already in the small iron ID.
..to Equinox  -whit Multi -IQ..will be pointing at the same depth ... more or less the object ID according to conductivity ..

similar skills in ID ... as Equinox ,, will have Vanquish..

for example .. Equinox my tiny 13mm-0.5gram silver hammered  coin / 13 ID / buried at a depth of 23 cm in the ground ... shows up to 12-13ID ... while classic VLF d detector /  Ace 400i / shows this tiny coin with ID 86-95 .... even though the real ID of this coin is ID 48 ../ Ace 400i / ..

Similarly, you can try rotating the discrimination setting on the Analog detector/Tesoro  Mojave/ over some very deep buried low-conducting object ... and see how high the discrimination setting can signal you to that object...

I did a quick test on my ATP that I got back from repairs but I only have the new 9x12 concentric coil on it as the dd is marginal. The machine has the latest firmware as well. Not sure if the coil type is making the difference or the firmware or combination of both but what I found is that the vdi does not jump as much and stays within just a couple numbers keeps those numbers until it hits the fringe or fall off of the signal that is much much shorter.

A dime will keep it's 81-82 signal to about 9 1/2" inches then about 10-10 1/2" the signal will hit at 78-79 then no vdi and no audio as it is out of range. Getting same results with quarters, nickels and copper pennies.

I do remember the vdi varying much more and having audio and no vdi on deep or distant targets with the old dd prior to breaking.

I'm not sure if I like the abrupt fall off on signal or vdi yet, will try it in the field and see.

On my Tejon the falloff on signal is much much greater so I can see your point.

Is that a air test? It AT Pro would be doing something to even hit a 9 1/2 dime here in the ground much less I D it.

Yes air test as the ground here is on the frozen side. Stock dd old firmware 6-7" in mild soil I could get a reliable vdi. My old air test sheet where I marked all my coils and machines on the concentric gains maybe an 1" but that is also on the repaired machine with new firmware.

VDI readings are consistent to just about the fringe and vdi drops along with the audio now. In other words if the target is out of range there is no audio still. That is ok because depth is about the same but I think the new firmware seems to be lacking the nuances the old firmware had. I liked that audio variation. For me I work off the audio as it better tells me what the target is and how deep vs a display reading.

Going to try to get out and give the machine a good run and see how it works.

Found a 11 in almost seated liberty half dime and I'm Impressed!!!!!
I was very impressed. In iron littered site. I'm starting to become one with my Detector and not messing with preset modes much. Besides recovery and iron bias at f2 2

I'm just wondering if this has been asked before ?
When I purchased my Equinox 800 the shop told me that the multi-iq is not available when in gold mode, only 40 and 20 kHz. In the manual it if I understand it correctly it says that in gold mode you have multi, 40 and 20khz modes. My question is
In gold mode is the multi, all frequencies 5, 10, 15, 20 and 40khz or is it only scanning 20 and 40khz in gold modes.
Hope someone can set me straight

I was noticing "coil whine" coming from the control box. I'm sure it's normal but was wondering does anyone else hear this? very high pitched squeal or whine, very faint. I also have a GM1000 and I don't hear it on that one.
Edit: Interesting! Seems to be more prevalent when using Multi.

      1) Anyone have any advice and Best settings for the Minelab Equinox 600 for relic hunting like civil war relics buttons stuff like that? 2) Also when coin shooting for silver coins and gold coins anyone have suggestions or find there conventional or unconventional ways and programs better to locate Silver and gold coins? Like notching out vdis, or running it in beach in a field similar to Neil Jones program? 3) Also best settings on the beach for jewelry?

Afternoon all!  I know that there have been many programs out there for the 800, but are there any well known programs for the 600?  Mainly coin and relic hunting!  I like the preset park and field modes but wanted to possibly branch out and try something different.  Thanks! HH.

MY UNIT IS FRIED!  Evidently the Equinox can not even be rinsed off in the shower after use. What a piece of JUNK.  Two months to go in Mexico and I have a boat anchor. 😡   Minelab engineers should all be fired.
