Popular Post normmcq
It is with great sadness that I have to report that our friend and contributor Fred Mason passed away this morning at home with his wife by his side. Fred was a good man, husband and father. He was also a good detectorist and friend to all that knew him. Fred was also a very generous person, at just about every gathering he made a very large pot of "Chile Verde" and shared it with all. R.I.P. Popular Post Steve Herschbach
Oh my gosh, I'm very sad and shocked to hear that! He just posted on Wednesday!! I knew his health had not been well the last couple years but still.... 😞 Fred and I have been in regular communication, and in fact he was supposed to stop by for a visit this last fall, but got waylaid. I have not seen him since a brief get-together a few years ago. I really knew him more from a visit to my Moore Creek Mine many years ago. My condolences to his wife, family, and friends. He will be missed. https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/1045-steves-moore-creek-article-in-icmj/ Fred in 2005 at Moore Creek In front left with hat and blue shirt.... 17 4

mn90403
I just spoke with Fred a couple of days ago. He was asking me about the QED. Someone on the east coast was using it for a relic detector. I tried to call him this morning. I've had many good chats with Fred over the years. Last year I went with my wife and son to visit Fred in San Diego. He gave me his Australia maps before my trip to Australia. He LOVED Australia and I'm sure much of his spirit is in WA now. I'll miss Fred. Chase Goldman
I'm shocked and saddened. I always enjoyed our exchanges on the forum especially in regards to the GPX. He was knowledgeable and respectful of all points of view and freely shared his vast experience equally to newcomers and veterans to the hobby. Safe home to Fred and my condolences to his family.
GB_Amateur
To those of us who knew Fred only through this forum and his writings in the ICMJ, it's still a huge and unexpected loss. I can't imagine how those close to him feel. My sympathy to them. I found Fred's postings and particularly his answers to questions both sincere and honest. He had a soft way of delivering a strong answer. Of all the posters here who I've wanted to meet in person, he was in the top 5 on the list.
