Tennessee Coin & Relic Hunting With A Pi

Recommended Posts

I'm killing myself trying to determine the best rout to go with PI detector. I just moved to Tennessee and with red clay mineralized soil would the White's TDI SL be a good choice or the Garrett ATX? I am new to PI detecting and thinking the TDI would be a good beginner's but should I jump all in with the ATX? I've heard the TDI is under powered but the ATX has a steep learning curve.

Your input is welcome!!!!

From what I heard the ATX will go deeper but weight is a big issue. There are mods from what I read for the TDI to boost them.

I'm no PI guy, But Chase and Paris are correct on all accounts. If I were to pick one I would go with the GPX 4500 for a multi-purpose PI

I agree, TDI or GPX. Skip the ATX. When the ATX came out a GPX was a LOT more expensive, but price decreases since then no longer make the ATX very attractive compared to the GPX given its various limitations. And a GPX is not any harder to learn than a TDI. You don’t use 70% of the settings, just the pre-sets with a few minor adjustmments.

I've often wondered about the GPX too.
