Found My First Cool Button This Morning!

Recommended Posts

Very nice shoe button from crica 1880s - 1930s.

Those were a copper or low quality brass plated button. Very hard to find them in the ground and be that nice of shape.

Please don't break it or try to clean it up to much as they are nice in that condition.

Thanks for sharing the photo's and great job on finding it.

I forgot to ask, is it between 10 and 14 MM?

That is a sure giveaway for a shoe button.

It's actually much larger - close to 29mm.

Thanks for the additional information, that puts it into the clothing category.

They may have used a similar button to the shoes, but I doubt it.

I will continue to research it a little further for the correct item.

The time period is correct for that style button.

The button is made by American Makers in 1846, and was used on coats with matching shoes.

They were discontinued 2 years later and were made from a low grade brass.

Hope this helps. Should you find 4 or 5 more of them they would be worth around $250.00.
