Steve, you completely misunderstood my posts. You jumped to the conclusion that I was clueless about Pulse Induction and the Impulse.

I've been casually following the development of the Impulse AQ for many years. It's getting so that in order to post here, a person has to give a long explanation of what they know in order to be understood. Try not reading between the lines so much. I know very well that the Tone ID on the Impulse is very crude compared to a VLF. I also have owned two PI machines and understand the tone quality involved when discerning targets.

I was just trying to understand what these Tone and Mute settings do and how they perform. Maybe I didn't communicate it very well.

I apologize. I would say something similar in return. Not everything I say is about you, but more generalized in nature aimed at a wider audience. I’m actually referring to your reference of the video as much as anything, because it reflects what I was thinking when I saw the video, i.e. “oh, oh, people are going to misinterpret this as meaning more than it means.” Again, my apologies if I made it feel as if I were targeting you specifically in some way. That was not my intent. I’m probably just too close to the subject at the moment and need to lighten up and back off a little.

Thank you ALEXANDRE TARTAR for taking the time to demonstrate both good and bad targets.    So silver & gold necklace laying straight will certainly give a different tone from an iron wire.  I realize a copper wire will give off a strong non-ferrous tone.  I look forward to more questionable targets such as bottlecap, pulltabs and lead.   Again, I would expect they will force me to dig to positively identify.

I would like if it is possible, in the same kind of video to hear the pulltab and the brown euro cents  corroded or not .

on the old pulltab there is no audio difference, but on the modern eight pulltab you confirm getting an audio difference of double beep?

Please don't back off a little Steve, we all want to know what you have to say ! And we are adults and can't be to sensitive. You're a specialist in the detector field with so much experience, we can only dream off and we know you're telling the truth ,and say it the way it is! Go full blast, Go Steve.

The philosophy is this:

Either you wait after the gold which is inaccessible because too deep comes back to the surface thanks to the sea, at the risk that someone detect before you with a more powerful detector.

Either you decide to spend more time learning, digging etc ... But you find before the others and after the others ...

I call this detecting the 'staging area.'

Before targets are brought up or washed off by wave or tide energy they collect for a few weeks, months or years waiting for the right circumstances to move.  I look forward to detecting these areas on my beaches before the targets are ejected up on the beach where I have found them with my  Explorer, 3030 and Equinox and even my 5000.

My beaches are not a sea, lagoon or a lake where targets remain in nearly the same place where they were lost.  They move in what I sometimes call a crab crawl waiting for the energy to be within the finding range.  A few years back when we had an El Nino we had new targets all summer long.  Targets are sparse now so I have to look deeper.

Well there is a way to do that while being sensitive to others. I grabbed Badgers post as convenient and in doing so did not think how he would take it being directly linked to. Rest assured, I'm pretty hard to shut up - just ask my wife!

I had my best time detecting when I was able to punch down to the level that recent beach activity exposed. Exposed for me a lot, but only slightly for others that did not have that depth with their VLF's. Even though the AQ is not really intended for silver or copper coin hunting, it still will find them in all metal at great depth. On my beaches, I will hunt gold first, then hunt some silver and copper (and iron of course). It will be very interesting to learn the maximum we can squeeze out of the AQ.

Here is a picture of what I hope to avoid digging.  These are larger than the normal pieces that seem to sound so good, especially when really deep.  Makes no difference which detector, TDI Pro, Dual Field, Equinox, 3030.  Steve, Joe, Andre, Rick, Le Jag, how will the AQ react to these bits and pieces in the wild? I dig them as small as 1/4 inch in length, so there is not enough for an elongated double blip.

Not sure what modes you are running??  but my Equinox will not dig that.  I know there is plenty of that in the beach where I hunt.

I guess I should have posted the coins with the Lobster trap pic.  The top row of coins are normal "fresh drop" coins.  Those below are the green and sandblasted coins that are normally in the 12 to 15+ inch range where the Lobster trap pieces are also located and have been moving in and out with the tide for years.  I think part of the problem I have with the Lobster trap wire is that it is vinyl coated and virtually no rust.  I am in Beach Mode 1 on the Equinox and running about as hot as it will run.  I can avoid bobby pins, tent stakes, nails, bottle caps without any problem.  It is these vinyl coated pieces that do not give an indication of iron or steel.
