I wonder if the antenna is for the Bluetooth or GPS?  GPS would be great especially if Minelab increased the gps storage memory.

The FCC does not test metal detectors per se. The only models that normally are listed on that site are those with wireless capability, and that is what the FCC is testing for... that the wireless meets 2.4 GHz Bluetooth emission standards.

A lab will test metal detectors as “unintentional radiators.” Some detector companies choose to risk not having them tested, but according to the part 15 statement:

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and; (2) This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

In order to ensure a detector complies with this it is taken to a lab, exposed to interference, and measured for harmful interference at different settings. The findings are submitted to the FCC in a giant stack of paperwork and gets approved, making the product “FCC compliant.” It is an extremely boring and tedious process!

Any device that transmits or receives using an antenna (which is all a search coil is) needs to be tested in order to be sold legally.
