Recommended Posts

After a busy week, doing an effort between heavy rain interruptions, I finally finished this work!

Thanks for all people involved in this project for their knowledge shared...

Underwater test next week(I hope)

It is a Detech 8" Mono coil for Gpx and Tdi Pro/Sl...The alternative was the Coiltek Platypus 12x8 mono, but is a discontinued one and a few are available in the Usa only...

Talking of buoyancy, There's not a lot of difference with the original 12" dual field...It will float the same way believe me...

One thing nice about the Garrett mono is it works really well in the water even salt, doesn't lift off at all.

Hoping it performs as well as possible for your conditions. The gasket is difficult but looks like it is all seated correctly. I don’t think the cable glands will give you any problems.....it forms a good watertight seal when tightened and Whites seal the connection where the cable gland meets the control box.....you can see the black adhesive. Fingers crossed that the heavy salt is manageable.....keep the Gain down if not needed especially if you know targets are in range. And finally, don’t get too concerned about low delays......even at 20uS you will capture most gold and the higher karat gold responds very well to higher delays. 👍

I love the Garrett 8" coil design. That coil was born exactly for diving purpose but unluckily some more mods were needed...Things I'm still not able to do...I learned in a spectacular pdf file that Steve posted here, there's lot more than wire another brand's coil on the machine...After the mechanical work there's how to tune the machine for the new addition...Game over for me then.

The easiest choice for the Tdi was to use a Gpx/Gp/Sd Minelab compatible coil... I Still think something can be improved on the pcb however...Next underwater test will tell the truth on this subject.

I hear ya, wanted to build a machine myself but need to get an oscilloscope and invest too much $$ and time. Last thing you want to do id damage that TDI especially since Whites seems to be in a bit of limbo.

Hi all. I use a GPZ 7000 at the moment. I will be looking at the new 6000 early in the new year. I spoke to a supplier today asking if the mains charger for the 7000 is compatible with battery for the 6000. WAS TOLD NO, as the 7000 mains power transformer supplied is 18 volt not 12 volt.
Looking at both systems firstly the 7000 series.   Tansformer   input 240 volt- 0.7 amp    output  output 18 volt- 1.67 amp
Goes to BC 10 cradle   input 11-30 volt  23w max   output  8.4 volt- 2 amp AND  5 volt- 0.67 amp
The battery states 7.2 volt  total capacity 72Wh

Now the GPX 6000                                                 Transformer  input 240 volt- .5 amp Max   output  12 volt- 10 amp
Trans plugs directly into battery   input 12 volt- 1.0 amp?  output 7.2 volt- 42Wh
What this tells me is Minelab have produced a new detector which uses the same voltage to run as the 7000 but the charging components are not compatible between the models. Should be.
The new 6000 uses a reduced capacity battery (weight issue?)which  does not last the full day, then you need a spare which you cant charge with mains power until the original is fully charged in about 5/6 hours. After a big day in the field I cant stay awake to swap the batteries so I need another transformer as well?
I am told by the Dealer though you could use the two car power leads as they are connected to a 12 volt car battery. Cheers sturt

I have been detecting an old home site. I started out with my ORX and the x35 9" coil it found alot of targets, and then kinda went quite, so i grabbed the Tarsacci, with its 12" coal and the ground let up again , and in the one spot the east yard it to went silent, but what gagged me was i was digging down 14 inchesand doing what i call a frontabout 3ft wide and just detecting the dirt i was throwing out of the hole and using a magnet to pull out the iron and going over the dirt again but now i was using the Mackro racer with the 5" coil to do this and it was pulling out lots of non iron targets this way but what caught me off gard was when i went out side of the hole and just for the heck of it started scanning the surface the other two detectors had gone over , i started getting hits, pulling up more shotgun shells and other non iron targets , so the 5" Racer coil was doing somthing the other two could not do . it was getting in between the metal and at a good 6 "  , this took me back because i figured  no way it would do so well but it did and is ,

I’m looking for an after market COIL SUPPORT for a COILTEK 10X5 EQUINOX coil…. I just finally bit the bullet and found one…. I’d like to put a coil support on this coil to hopefully not break the tabs too soon on it…. Does anyone know where a coil support for this coil can be obtained ? ? ?………thanks …..Al

I had something strange happen, today. I had my GPX 6000 battery fully charged and fresh off the charger.  It had completed its charge cycle and then trickle charged overnight.  I popped it in the detector and started detecting. Within five minutes the battery meter dropped from three bars to two bars.  If I turned off the detector and let it sit for a 5-10 minutes and then turned it back on, it would go back up to three bars for a short period of time before then going back to two bars. Has anyone else noticed this with theirs?

as I already put in another post, I just bought a second-hand gpx 5000.  It comes with the comander 11 DD and 11Mono coils.  I would like if it is possible for a colleague to recommend a coil to complement the ones it brings.  Its use would be to search for coins.  I've been looking at the detech 15 inch DD ultra sensing.  If anyone has used it, what can you tell me about it?

I am 80 and having problems trying to figure out the difference between COR'S coils and Nel coils.Looking at a 9.5" x 5" d.d. coil for my F-70,seems the Nel coils are harder to find ,but the Cor's are easy to find.Rumor says two brothers own both coils companies is this right?🙂
