Glad that method it worked out. 
Sounds pretty easy. 
I was hoping for maybe an original Atocha or S.S.Central America coin or ? 
Congrats though on a great looking ring!

I add vinegar and baking soda on my crusty stuff.  I like watching it boil.  Lots of Tube videos on it.

Soak in warm hydrogen peroxide and stuff will come flying off. I haven't seen any damage using it.
