Actually Fisher phones are some of the most copied Headphones ever made

the oneS that come with the AQ are actually better than Gray ghost in my opinion .....I designed the Timberwolfs and Hurricanes....the drivers piezo that my friend Beechnut uses I used back in the early 90’s onmypersonal Cuda and one very similar on the production Baracuda ....the only difference in the land phones fisher sold had a clipper circuit built into them to protect youR hearing which a lot of copiers including me left out and just used a variable resistor pot on each ear to dial them in ......I have not pulled the cup on my fisher phones but what I do hear I hear well . I’ll probably put a m12 connector on mine after warranty has expired....To work on JoJo’s Ltd Battery For AQ.....just my thought use earbuds if you want or a clicker

The problem with the Fisher phones is that they are waterproof which makes them expensive. I already have three sets of perfectly good headphones and don't need any more. I will also be going wireless and the Fisher phones probably won't have Bluetooth capability.

Don't worry I have dissected both sets they offered. Nothing special other then I've never seen Dual Piezo's used before. And they work fairly well...build quality is not perfect but not many will be diving. If you are thinking about going diving with them I would highly recommend taking a peak inside to see if any additional protection is needed.

My first set of AQ phones were like Joe’s, two 35mm drivers per cup. I had an issue with one cup. One of the two drivers in the same cup would cut on and off intermittently. The on and off lower volume was annoying to say the least. You could still hear the threshold, but it was much like when flying and your ears stop up and then pop only in one ear. Fisher was very fast with their response over nighting a new pair and providing a shipping label to return the original. My next pair came with one 35mm and one 28mm driver in each cup. Picture below. I have since acquired a second AQ and those head sets have the same.  I have a set for sale should anyone want them. I also have a new never used stock battery for sale.

Can't help wondering what a set of Tony E's would do this machine has such an interesting faint range.

I did a set of Tony's for one of the AQ owners.. put a M-8 5 pin connector on the set...., very clean audio....(over the stockers) but they still don't have the range and DB's to pull the super faints. If I remember correct the Db rating on a target 4 inch's from the coil using Tony's was 91db.......  same as the stock head phones (90db). Skullies... which I make.... Db rating on the same targets was 105/106db. I think the Gold Master would be around the same. The Gold Masters have more of bass tone, the Skullies very high pitch which I favor more. Only problem with a louder audio.. the AQ can drive you insane...if you don't have a audio cut n I off.

Last picture of the unconventional design of the Skullies, more of a horn to direct the audio into the ear..less restriction on the piezo allows it to flex more then any other made...I use a skin to cover the piezo, no silicon... 3M Tegaderm, used to cover wounds on your body. Tough stuff.

And I no longer sell them.

I'm still lost in the dark for another machine to buy soon and honestly bored to think 2021 undefined release and price for the final AQ.

Now, to see the internal work of the headphones, convince me to never use the original one to dive even more...

I'm stuck with my amplified pair project too.

Seriously, I'm next to think that another Excal will give me peace of mind...

Well this is a lively Conference....Thank you Joe for posting the dual piezo transducers....I finally ate some spinach And managed to Pop mine open to take a peek and mine is like Mr. Carolina..... which is similar to the gray ghost phones if you use two of the smaller piezo’s.....I guess Joe won the Lotto and got four Grande Drivers that is why his head was starting to swell Good thing he modded a kill switch .....now he Is almost back to normal.....me I am hard of hearing and had a hearing aid since I was nine even though I was born with perfect hearing at an early age I stepped on a stump In the creek playing with my boat ....my Dad swooped me up and ran me to hospital and sewed my foot up this was all good and back to normal for one year then seeding affect had caused osteomyelitis....then fever and they over did the Stromycin for 21 straight days and caused me to have nerve loss in inner ear  But they saved my leg and I am eternally grateful......but really I do hear well and I have always been able to tune out loud noise .....I guess it is because Of my 33 years with the wifey....so finally ......Yes a CZ21 or Excalibur are really good for diving to about a hundred feet last time I looked....I can hear them  Better 20 feet and deeper  When it comes to diving the Sword Excalibur had 4 output transistors instead  of today’s two The old one could hurt your ears out of water Gary Storm held their feet to the fire on that one him being a diver......unless you are like Joe and I and have a hobby inside a hobby never happy always reaching higher it much cheaper to buy what works best for you ......And Keep it well maintained....I did have a little amp I built for diving at shallower depts.....I will have to dig it out Skully see if you can hard wire on perf board which use to be my passion one of a kinds....I will look next time I am over at the big shop.....some people use clickers or off center motors dc that are set to vibrate easy nuff to build especially for the completely deaf that and blinky lightglued to your mask for black water .

In closing Guys and Gals I know it was long but i do read your comments and enjoy your input and understand better than most you have to go to where the treasure is wether 2 inch’s in water or 160:feet with mixed gas just plan your dive and dive your plan beware of traps and hidden danger life is to short as it is

Thanks for your reply, Joe.  I did notice that the TE's had a lot of harmonic range--(on the Equinox) thought for sure they would bring out those faints on the AQ.  That's a very ineresting material to use in your "Skullies"--if you ever do want to sell a pair...my MGM buzzer build with the take out plastic covers came out kind of "rattley" lol...

I think TE's would be a great add to the AQ...I noticed they have a very clean and detailed audio...And I really liked the detailed part. Which would give you more info on the targets shape. Mine are more like a set of head phones on steriods. Which is good but not alot of detail on the targets for they are so loud. That sets me up to dig all...

Well, here I sit - recovering from some minor surgery - the sitting part made more difficult - no more details available....
Today I had Fisher ship the 25th AQ LTD. If I had any idea why it is so infernally slow of them to ship the darned things, I probably couldn’t share the details....but the fact that they give me no useful information about such things means that I am spared the decision on what to disclose.
Mostly folks who have them are learning what they are good for and the consensus is - I think - that like any other detector - they are not good for EVERYTHING. Happily, the consensus also seems to be that they are amazing for a range of interesting and useful things. You can all read about all this elsewhere here.
For me, I am patiently tending my “waiting list” now about 45 or so. Whether FTP will eventually furnish enough machines to clear the list is not known to me, but I am optimistic.
I am surprised, pleased and grateful that the majority of folks on my list are unbelievably patient and polite - You all have my thanks. I am VERY happy that I didn’t go in for “pre orders” “pre payments” of “deposits”. Had I done som my life would be a bookkeeping hell (thank you Steve for good advice!).
When the LTD is done and the “Unlimited” is available, I expect and hope to be one of the dealers for this. In fact, I pretty much feel like I am “all in” for the whole Impulse line.
The Gold is busily in work. Prototypes will be fielded for test and when the time is right it will be “inshallah” introduced. I have bought a new SDC2300 and a nice used Gold Bug 2 to play with in getting ready for the Gold. In the meantime - I bought myself another AQ LTD and am demanding (for that that is worth) to be early on line for an 8” coil to play with the AQ inland - running its paces against the “trial ponies” - all to educate me for the Gold.
Meanwhile, I sit here in Gold Canyon - seeing no-one. I have a couple of “strikes against me” and I am a bit of a “health pessimist” and so the slightest hint of the plague would be extremely unwelcome.
I look forward to next year when we hopefully do more and be more engaged.

Got my BBB (Beachnut Big Battery) 11 hour (est) run time battery today.  Hope to give it a spin tomorrow.   This should help me from having to backpack extra gear around for 3 1/2 hours or until the first battery quits me.   I opted for the standard headphone connector to keep things simpler.   The standard FT hearphones seem to sufficient at this point.  Although I have been reading a lot on some of the threads about adapting other headphone for the AQ.  That may be something I need to address down the road but not for now.  I am just now starting to discern one target from another and don't want to start the learning curve again. LOL
Thanks OBN for such a nice looking addition to my AQ.  11 hours is something FT really needs to think hard about now.  Or at least the 8 hour version.  That would be very do able I would think.
I will keep you posted on run times.

      Joe
PS:  I am not sure why my pics are sideways.

Tides were decent this past week, so I took 2 days to hunt 2 different beaches with the AQ. While the tide was high, I would detect with the GPX 5000 or the Equinox 800, so I could conserve battery time for the AQ. These finds pictured are all found with the AQ. First beach was disappointing, as the low tide did not expose any rocks or clay. This beach just doesn't want me to hunt the good areas  😄 Beach two was better hunt with all day rain to keep the gawkers away. This hunt was interesting, and I was able to shed some light on how the AQ will perform for my style of beach hunting. Both day's hunts were mainly using Tone Mode, so I could hear both the accepted and rejected targets. I did this since both beaches can produce silver, plus I was interested to see the cut off between reject and accept, for the settings I had. The most telling were the sinkers, as some came in high tone and the larger ones came in at a low tone. Beach two also showed that location matters, even on the same beach. One section produced zinc pennies, and scraps of aluminum cans. But the other section produced heavy targets, with a lot of lead. That section I was only able to detect for about 1 hour as the beach was about to close down for the night. No gold, but the lead and nickels says that I was close. If my coil would have come over gold I would have heard it loud and clear. All those targets screamed out loud. I will hit that area again when time permits.

      Hello
have you seen this video ?

       Lot of iron ...
I don't understand English very well, but I have the impression that he says that there is no variation in the audio. and that there is no double beep on the bobbie pin .it is sold to find under iron, but I see it only finds iron. 🤔

I was wondering what features in the new Impulse Gold detector you nugget detectorists would like to see in this new  machine to make you buy? For myself the lightweight part is very important, I would also like to see solid coils for ease of use in uneven terrain, and I would like to see gpz type performance on surface grain size gold and would like to see gpz type performance on 1-2 gram nuggets at depth. Not real concerned about deep large nuggets. Auto ground balance would be a huge plus too. Perhaps the 7 usec timing will be enough to produce gpz type performance on grain size and gram size gold. Time will tell I guess.
I don't expect Minelab will be sitting still with regards building a lightweight nugget detector flagship model, sooner than later probably.
