What Happened To The Ukgpa? (uk Gold Panning Association)

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I just signed up!

Does anyone know what happened to the UKGPA?

I was a member and I met up with a few from there on a gold panning trip about 3-4 years ago. Thought I'd like to get back into it and have another go, but I can no longer find their website and no trace of them on the internet!

Think it was Dave and Julie running it, if I remember rightly?

Would be great to know if they are still around? any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Even though I do not know about the UKGPA I would suggest posting under the Meet and Greet section to find more answers to this.

Any way welcome aboard and I am sure that someone will be able to answer your question.

I think it would down solely to lack of interest, not alot of folks in the UK are interested in gold panning especially when you can detect for many other items.

Its a novelty for sure and would like to give it a try before they carry me out in a wooden overcoat, but that would just be it,would not do it long term though.

Many thanks for reply and the welcome, maybe one of the mods could move it to that forum if it's more appropriate

Hello Rick, definitely lack of interest at the moment as we can't go anywhere lol! You may be surprised though, the ukgpa site had a lot of members for purely gold panning.

It makes for a good weekend away and a bit of an adventure too if you turn it into a camping trip!

But yes, you should definitely give it a try if you are ever offered the opportunity. It's great fun, although it's surprisingly more hard work than you may think!

Hopefully someone may come across this thread and update whether the group still exists.

Hi Goldpanner Here. I created the UKGPA as firstly a forum where people could discuss Panning and also to meet up (We did have 2 great trips to France) and also to try and put forward a solid basis for discussion with the Authorities who wanted to limit or even ban panning. Due to ill Health I had to back away from the Forum and did indeed pass it over to Julie and Dave and they did a great job, untill certain people from other forums and those against panning etc decided to create havoc on it. Julie and Dave then simply shut it down as they were unable to control the scumbags. It was a quite active group with panning trips organised in the UK and also France and also a place where panners could get decent unbiased info and also by decent cheap equipment (including my Supersluice)

So, after some serious health problems, including more recently two bouts of Covid I am once agin up on two legs and looking forwards to returning to Panning In France and Spain in 2022. If anyone wants to contact me I have a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/gold.panner.1650/ and would be happy to chat with anyone, maybe even here.

So good luck and good health to everyone detecting and panning
