Research Methods In Icmj By Chris Ralph

I just wanted to say how lucky and appreciative we are to have Chris Ralph as a frequent contributor to the DP forum. In the Dec 2015 ICMJ magazine, Chris wrote two articles with in-depth methods to research areas for gold: Researching Mineralized Areas and Using Geologic Maps. As a relative newbie, stuck in frozen Colorado and thinking about 2016, I'm always interested in how successful detectorists look for new areas to hunt and would appreciate any ideas or "trade secrets" from other members. ;)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years,

Bill

You all are too kind. I'm just a grumpy old SOB - just ask my wife.

I too am stuck in the snow here in Nevada waiting for warming weather with all sorts of ideas for 2016.

One good thing is that the shortest day of the year is only roughly a week away and the days will start getting longer (slowly) and soon after the weather will start to get warmer (slowly).

One article in this most recent issue which struck me is the one about the guys doing hard rock, crushing their own ore and separating out the free gold. I did near zero hard rock in 2015 (just a couple days) and plan to do more in 2016. I doubt I will end up with 3 pounds of gold as they did, but I'll get some, guaranteed.

You're not all that old Chris...

I haven't seen the article yet but I think you are the best writer in the mining business. I look forward to reading it.

... Remember wives always know best - even when they don't.

RC; I must respectfully disagree for the following reasons. First, and foremost, all wives tend to--------- I'll have to finish this later. the wife just called.

I always learn something from your articles. thanks

RC - Much as I complimented Steve, you two are our "treasure houses" of knowledge - THANKS, and Merry Christmas to you both. ICMJ forms the perfect triad of this incredible set of resources we all can share in thanks to yours and Steve's efforts, along with many unsung hero's at the magazine.

We are lucky to have some sort of access to what you all are sharing with us..... I've been at this since the late '70's and can't remember this level of sharing. Thanks again to you all!

I've got to agree with gambler, Chris Ralph's book "Fists Full of Gold" 2009 is a winner.  Its sitting on my work table with a few copies of ICMJ.  The book answers a lot of questions and gives you info needed to be able to ask the right questions.
