Hello, I'm new to detecting but have been researching different gold prospecting techniques on and off for the last 7 years. I'm addicted to learning new things and felt it was time to stop lurking around here and join the fun. I live in the mountains of western North Carolina and am mostly interested in nugget hunting. This state was the biggest gold producer in the US until the California rush started. The gold around here is known for being very pretty with exceptionally high purity. I'm planning on buying my first detector this year, and hopefully it'll lead to some nice pics to share.

Welcome to the forum GoldenHillbilly!

You have come to the right place to learn the different techniques in this hobby.

You are in a great location for the gold and some nice gems also.

I have done some gold sluicing with my grandfather near Wilton Springs TN. if that is close to you.

Beautiful country for sure and glad to see you here. Please post some of your finds here when you get them.

What type of detector are you planning to pick up?

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm close to Hendersonville which is about 1.5 hours from Wilton Springs. As far as detectors go, I'm leaning towards the SDC 2300 or maybe the Garret ATX. I actually started a thread hoping to get some recommendations...

I really like the 800 because it very versatile for many types of hunting, their updates and warranty is a big plus also.

Welcome GH!

Happy you have joined the fun! Take your time picking a detector! You have access to much more to find, than just gold! Although, that is a great choice!💰 Keep us posted how it goes!👍👍

I actually live half way between Hendersonville and Bat Cave. But a family member has property close to Burnsville.

Keep the nugget fever, and add coin, and relic fever to the list! That way, you can always find something to hunt, no matter where you detect!!👍👍

Hi Goldpanner Here. I created the UKGPA as firstly a forum where people could discuss Panning and also to meet up (We did have 2 great trips to France) and also to try and put forward a solid basis for discussion with the Authorities who wanted to limit or even ban panning. Due to ill Health I had to back away from the Forum and did indeed pass it over to Julie and Dave and they did a great job, untill certain people from other forums and those against panning etc decided to create havoc on it. Julie and Dave then simply shut it down as they were unable to control the scumbags. It was a quite active group with panning trips organised in the UK and also France and also a place where panners could get decent unbiased info and also by decent cheap equipment (including my Supersluice)
So, after some serious health problems, including more recently two bouts of Covid I am once agin up on two legs and looking forwards to returning to Panning In France and Spain in 2022. If anyone wants to contact me I have a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/gold.panner.1650/ and would be happy to chat with anyone, maybe even here.
So good luck and good health to everyone detecting and panning

Hi all. Long time listner, first time poster.
Rather than a rambling introduction I have a Question. It appears I am in the market for a new detector. I have an original Fisher Gold Bug in an honest "new condition", I love it and never thought I would part with it but.... do you think it would be an easy sell, or perhaps none wants these old antiques? What would be a fair price?
Only reason for me to sell it would be to fund a Gold Bug DP....if I go that route, may go for the Minelab Vanquish 540 and keep the GB.....or maybe couple other detectors I'm mulling over.
Said another way, make me an offer if interested.

Will be in town for the week and may have some time for detecting. Anyone have any time to meet for a hunt or leads for relics/silver coin possibilities? Thanks

G'day from lovely downunder. I thought I'd introduced myself but evidently not, apologies.
I had a GP3000 and 3500 many years ago. Had to sell up due to divorce but kept my Sovereign GT for the beach and parks.
Back on the hunt now so will be picking up a GM soon when they come back up on special, and something a bit better down the road when I'm a better off financially.
Just thought I'd say hi,,,and yes I have an old banjo LOL.

I'm a old (age over 50) detectorist from Italy. I used a lot of m.d. in 26 years (various model of Minelab, Whites, Tesoro, XP, Fisher, Garrett and the latest Rutus), but i love so much the Whites Spectrum XLT. This is for me the best detector of all time. I hope to know news and interesting contents about the magic m.d. world!
      Greetings from Italy
