I also vote for Amber, looks like a nice piece.

Good hunting and good luck on your next outing.

Hard to tell from the photo's but it kinda looks like amber. If your daring heat up a needle to red hot and poke the underside, If it smells like a pine tree its amber. If it smells like plastic you know what you have. Nice find either way!!!

Oooohhh, that is scary.  A plastic that was used early in the 20th Century (maybe before) is celluloid.  That hot needle 'trick' worked with it, but ruined more than a few antique pieces by burning holes right through them.  Isn't there a less potentially damaging way to determine this?

Maybe take it to a couple of jewelers to see if they recognize the piece is?

If you run hot water over celluloid or rub the stone on your pants real fast to generate a little heat.  it should smell like mothballs (kinda). Its a safer way of testing for celluloid. good luck.

Ex-girlfriend claimed amber 'feels warmer' than plastic. Touch the stone part to the inside of your wrist. Kind of a rich hippie chick that collected minerals. She had an aquarium filled with amber necklaces from the flea market...
