Its velocity (weight/size) and hardness (less metals) made for a splat landing.  This type of meteorite would decompose in wet climates.

If you could prove that it hit something that would make it more valuable to a collector.  There is a lot of 'loose' money out there for these types of objects right now.  You have to build the story.

Hope they didn't touch this with bare hands....  (That's even worse than cleaning valuable coins with abrasives.)
