As a regular fisherman You own inside your brain the attitude to find holes......Be careful then, and for now try to hit a trough...

You try shortening up the shaft so the coil is closer to your feet or get a counter weight? I have a sling and tried it a few times and could never get used to it. Think if you balance the machine it will be much easier for longer hunts. At least your starting to pick up some coins and that ring looks pretty cool for what it is. Just matter of time to find a few keepers.

I'm using the sling to keep from putting the detector down. It doesn't bother me or restrict my swing, I have the Equinox coil set to about 1-2" above the ground with my arm fully extended. I'm 6'1" so that isn't an easy task. Another perk using the sling is that no one can snatch my detector. The scoop has a long reach anyway. 😀

Yep used to do a lot from my boat in the Potomac river, then changed to surf casting when I switched to an RV. We camp almost exclusively at beach campgrounds. It's easier to clean finds than fish!

When I think of all the stuff I could have found on the beach the last 15 years or so... 🤣 I've only been metal detecting for 8 months now.

The beach I'm going to this morning is mostly Atlantic waves. Definitely know to "fish" the troughs and never turn my back to the sea. 😀

I'm determined to get some gold, but know the realities. Any find is a good one. She likes the quiet time when I'm gone. 😀

Most of the gold I found was in the 1-9 range. That is where he tiny stamped gold charms are, along with crosses, studs, and some small ladies rings. Broken band small rings read there also, along with most small linked gold chains. Above those numbers and you are in the normal ring range. Everyone wants that 1/2 ounce ring, but there are a lot of chains and small gold out there lost over the years.

      When It Chains It Fours

      Yesterday I went on a detect and didn't get much until a little area on the beach where I found a chain.  It didn't have a definitive sound but it looked like it could be silver (it's not).  This made me check the area more thoroughly as I had nothing else going.  I came up with another chain which is a bit of odd construction.  This one would be a bracelet.  And then as I was exiting this little area I got yet another chain but this one is rusting quickly.

      During the mile back to the car I thought about how the ocean can be very fickle.  No coins around these chains but 3 of them.  I wanted a 4th because the rhyme and title to this post was already stuck in my brain.  It didn't happen.  I got the cheap ring instead of a chain.
      Today I was going to detect with the 800 headphones again as a result of a purchase from a forum member.  I was glad to confirm to him that while they were sitting on his shelf uncharged they charged for me and also paired.  Great.  I was now on another beach but it was also sparse pickings.  No coins to speak of and I got to one area where someone left their grid marks so I skipped that.  When I headed in the other direction on a mid-line I got a small tone.  When I lifted my scoop up I could see the balled up chain and I knew this one was silver.  My 'line' was rescued and now I could post the title.

      This is chain #4.  It is only 1.6g/.925.
      Searching the slope proved unproductive so I headed away from the beach to a dig out and found the costume ring which I think is old style but of no value.  That was my beach hunting.

      Later in the afternoon, I took my son to the park and one of the nannies said she needed my help.  They normally give me help and advice so I wanted to know what I could do.  She said she had lost her ring in the sand.  The sunscreen had loosened the ring she bought in Peru that was 18k with some little diamonds.  I had my detector in the car so I tried to find her ring.  She didn't have a good idea where it came off so it was unsuccessful.
      While I was looking for her ring after she left I did find the 1.1 g/14k ring with a heart shaped amethyst!  I don't find many rings in parks because I don't hunt them often.  This should probably change.  It is just good to get out.

      I went out to an old farmhouse with ozzie today. Located on a ridge, made for strong wind and a cold cold rain.  A lot of the soil around the house seemed like modern, terribly junk laden fill...pull tabs and broken bolts at 8 inches, etc.
      Equinox at 24 sense, disc off, recovery 3.
       
      Down to my last half hour and feeling a bit bummed....finally had a soft soft but repeatable high tone.  Pinpoint could barely get it...low grunts mixed in, but everything was so faint it had to be dug. Dug a full shovel length plug.  Pinpointer was fully in the hole and buzzing in center....Great sign...carefully cut again into the dirt and could see the silver edge...too wide for a dime...
      No complaints here!

      March - 3 Gold - AQ Ltd

      Did pretty good using the AQ Ltd last month in the wet sand low tide slopes...1 gold per hunt on 3 different hunts! spending a lot of time hunting in "Tones" mode. I love how this machine screams over gold! Almost like it's telling you "You better dig this damn target right now If you know what's good for you!!!" 😄
      The total weight for all 3 gold is 17 grams and all are 14k. The stones & pearl account for some of the weight of course so total gold weight is probably more like 14-15 grams maybe? just a guess..
      Working on April now 😉

      Historic Random Hunt

      I had to go get the first of 2 flu vaccine shots this afternoon so I decided to go out and get some relic hunting in this morning. Went down a hill in back of my house that I think is a trash dump site dating back quite a bit.
      There was a tremendous amount of iron present, but the Equinox did what it does best - tell ya where the good stuff is. Ground balance was about 53, I was in my trusty Farm 2 mode with all metal on, F2/0. Sensitivity 22.
      Got me a small pile of trash, I was only hunting about a half acre overlooking the river.
      Found these old Mason jar seals, usually I find them broken.
      Got a Big ol' ax head, put a penny on it for size:
      And now the finds. Bit of back story, the first button I ever found with a metal detector was from a WW1 military jacket...
      Thought I found another ox knob but it doesn't have threads. 1983 dime, beautiful 1939 wheat penny, a no date wheat. Model T Ford key, back code 69. Could be related to the hubcap I dug in the landing, and the, uh, model T Ford I found in the woods! 😀  Marble, came up with one of the coins. I think it's the kind that is in a paint can to stir the paint. It seemed to have a metal shroud around it, might have been part of the the can. Lug nut with "R". Military device clip, probably for a medal or badge.
      Centerpiece is the find of the day. It took a while to get the stamp to come up, had to use a grill brush and steel wool.
      When you find a dog tag it is obligatory (to me anyway) to find out who it is and attempt to find the family. This is a post-WW1 dog tag for the Marine Corps. The date is the enlistment date.

      It may be related not only to the device clip, but to the jacket button I found along the road back in August.

      I have been using the ORX and doing well but have not found any coins, and i think i have hunted this unhunted spot now 10 rimes or more, But this time i got out the big gun , the DEUS in full tones, using Coin fast,  it started squeeking out shot shells and brass things, one after the other , then my 1st coin on the spot came out a 1923 wheat. and not long after that the 1872 shield Nickle, I was using 8.4 KHZ and it came thru for me .and its deep to

      Went To Local Beach Today For A Little While. Found A Buffalo Nickel.

      Can't tell the date. Was using the Equinox 800 in Gold 1. This is the first Buffalo Nickel I found that could tell what the date was. In my regular ground, the ground balance is around 10. Ground balance on the wet beach on lake was 68.
