I am not liking my EQ600 with 15” coil and am wondering if it’s just my brain is too attached to my CTX, or if something is wrong with the coil or detector. I am noticing that the coil cable is being sensed if moved when I’m detecting so I did this little video test that uses my car as a ferrous background/target. If I move the cable with it in the background it senses the movement. But if I do it in air, no detection of the cable.  I’ve never seen this discussed or tried before so don’t know what to think about it.

When you move the cable while it's pointed at your car you are causing the coil to wiggle and pick up the metal in the car. If it was just the cable causing the problem, it would cause the detector to

I have lots of thoughts. Who told you to run some of these setting?  What is your IB?  Think you really need to get down to basics and understand why Minelab recommends the initial settings

So, just some observations from your excellent video on a very iron sand rich beach.......I could not tell if you were in Beach 1 or Beach 2. Did you try both in that damp sand? Did you ground balance

Moving the cable should not affect the target response...  Is it a ground balance thing that if I were to try a different type it wouldn’t happen?  Weird.

Sounds more like you are getting false signals from the ground or having EMI issues. Maybe make a video of it while detecting on the ground.

I love my 15" coil

sometimes having the sensitivity up too high can cause the problem depending on the ground. I used the CTX for over 4years and changed because of aging muscles, however I'm not missing the CTX because the Nox is a great machine.

This is my second - I had an 800 for over 8 months a couple years ago.  I’m trying to get a friend of mine to try it.  He uses an 800 and is happy with it.  Yesterday I was again trying my 600 with 15” at Laguna. This time I had the low latency Miccus headphones. I was still getting a lot of choppy audio - it seems a battle inside the machine on how to handle the intermittent black sand. Everything was a bunch of short cutoff blips.  Very hard to differentiate those caused by the black sand vs the very few targets that are there. Machine set for 50 tones but I’m hearing maybe 3. False targets are same volume as good ones. I have the sensitivity set down between 17-20.  Tried manual and tracking ground balance. Tried recovery speeds 1-3. Tried switching between beach 1 and 2. 2 has lower tones and different VIDs and misses some targets in wet sand.  Im really spoiled by the smooth setting on the CTX.  The EQ is just sending me junky audio that my brain is getting tired of processing. Sure, I could set sensitivity way down but that is not how others are running theirs at this beach.

The default tone settings (number, breakpoints, pitch, volume) for Beach 1 and Beach 2 are exactly the same by default and vdi’s for similar targets (e.g., nickels) are typically consistent across the board independent of the selected search mode.  So unless you changed settings manually from the defaults, this statement does not make sense.  Suggest you do a factory reset to get everything to the default settings and tweak from there.  You may have adjusted something inadvertently and that is why your Equinox is not behaving well at the beach unlike your buddies who seem to have no issues based on your statements.

Sometimes a user just doesn’t click with a machine.  Maybe it’s just too complex or different than what you are used to (sparky and fast).  So sometimes it’s best to quit trying to find fault with your machine (which is a known good beach performer) if it is otherwise not defective and banging your head against the wall and just go back to the CTX you keep comparing it too and seem to like.  It does just fine at the beach, too.

Just from the short video detecting your car, your Equinox sounds and acts like it is operating perfectly. Mine will do the same thing within 3 feet of any large piece of metal.

Default Beach 1 for most of the beach, dry or wet.  Default Beach 2 when Beach 1 becomes unstable or for use in the surf. If your beach has a lot of black magnetite or basalt sand you may want to hunt in 2 tones instead of 5 or especially 50. The same goes for if 50 tones is causing personal audio overload which sometimes happens to me. I often like to hunt beaches with nothing discriminated and -9 to +40 accepted. At some of the San Diego area beaches I have hunted, I had to reject a little bit of the iron range to deal with the black sand. I ended up hunting them with -3 or -4 to +40 accepted and used 2 tones.  I also owned a CTX for awhile. The tone lengths on the Equinox and CTX are very different no matter where you set the recovery speed on the Equinox since Equinox is a very high gain, very fast detector which comes remarkably close to XP Deus speeds and sensitivity considering it is an SMF detector. It will detect one millimeter sized targets even below the surface. It will never sound or operate like a CTX.

Some folk believe that their prayers are rewarded, others claim that if you ask the Universe for anything it’ll respond.. But when you need a new battery for your Foxy Noxy, these methods don't work anywhere near as good as keeping an eye out on Ebay..
Since that awful day last month when the battery on my Nox 800 stopped charging I’ve considered many options, including an external power-pack (expensive), soldering the plug-in cable to other lithium batteries (deadly), and to keep on swapping with the battery from my Nox 600 (pain in ass)..
This afternoon I searched on Ebay and scored two new Equinox batteries for just $50 (plus $10 postage).. That’s a new battery for Foxy Noxy and a spare for the unlikely event I ever need another one! Gotta love them win/win days..

I stumbled across this video of the F75 finding a silver coin deeper than the Equinox, and then he goes on to show the F75 performing better finding a coin between iron.
What are your thoughts on this one? I never did bother buying a F75 even though a SE edition came up for sale extraordinary cheap nearby to me, my experience with my T2 had me thinking my Nox was better in almost all situations, was I wrong?    I'm a bit puzzled by this video and I guess it could be soil conditions or something but I've found my Nox far better on deep silver than my T2 and I sure have experimented a lot on untouched in ground silvers.

I saw some waves last night and thought I'd get in a wet beach detect today before I drive to a one day desert hunt in the Southern California mountains.  I didn't know what to expect and I didn't find very much of interest but I did find this pendant.
Does anyone know anything about it and what the symbols and writings mean?  I'll do an image search and post what I find.

Today I was walking along the wet sand just looking for any targets and not finding many.  Then I found a Jesus ring. Thank you Jesus!  I gridded the area near the ring and found an Italian chain marked CU SU so I guess that means it is only gold ionized or something like that.  It is pretty.  It was time to get off the wet sand on the mile plus walk back to the car.
I walked around the area where I had found my Franklin 50 Cent piece and nothing new.  I went through the area nearby where I had found some recent silver and then followed my pattern back to the car.  It was a warm day and I had to keep myself slowed down at about the 3 hour mark to keep in the game.  Then I got the 35 on the Equinox and it turned out to be only my second silver 50 cent piece.  I don't think I've held one of these since I was a kid.  In the same general area was the 1944 Quarter and a couple of silver dimes.  That makes for a pretty good day.

These are the best of the finds with two wheat pennies.

Just after I found the ring which is unmarked I got a 5 on the 800.  When I dug it I could see the chain hanging out of the scoop.

Then you feel it and know the weight is not quite right even tho the color is good.

Then later I saw the markings and now it is stylish but not solid gold.  I gridded the area and kept telling myself that chains don't sound like coins.

Then about half an hour later I did get a coin sound and what a nice coin it is.

This has not been touched as far as cleaning.  It is one of those substantial coins that when you hold it it feels good.  So you settle down and get to work looking for more.

It was not long after and I had the quarter and a couple of dimes and the wheats.
This was the way it all looked when I dumped it in the containers after the hunt.

The saw blade was quite odd.  I'll go back to that area one day at the beginning of my hunt rather than at the end.

My Equinox 800 no longer charges, the green light flicks on and off as if its doing its job but the battery is not holding a charge.. as soon as i turn it on i get the 'battery flat' sign.. I'm one of those pedantic bastards who always runs their battery flat and then fully recharges it, for fear that otherwise it'll create a 'memory' half full..
Is there anything I can do about this? or is my poor old Foxy Noxy a write off?
Any advice will be much appreciated.. even slaughtering a black chicken at midnight during a full moon, if it works I'll be a very happy man!

I have an 800 that I use at the beach.  Sometimes it drops and this causes the plastic stand to break.  I glue it but it has happened about 3 times and soon I won't be able to glue it.
It is time to get a new cuff/stand.  I'm really not interested in new shafts but ...
I use the 15" more than any coil if that makes a difference.
