Wondered that myself.  Apparently it ticks the boxes to be a continent (Zealandia) but I'm not sure that it has been officially pronounced as such.

I saw it on a geek vid channel , North Zealandia is New Caledonia and New Zealand is South Zealandia . The rest is under water but they decided it was dry for long enough time in history to qualify. Link  to map + vid.vvvvvvvvvvvvvv
