Excalibur 1000 Advice

Recommended Posts

Head phones you can buy some Grey Ghost or Tony E's and wire up.. Much easier then splicing a coiled cable in.. but just incase.. I listed what you need.

Hey I'm looking for some advice from excalibur owners on how to proceed here.

I picked this up for $150, the knobs and lower shaft were broken. I ordered and installed anderson knobs which seem like they are going to work great.  The dive shaft is on it right now but I'll get a new shaft here soon.

The most obvious fix I need help with is the wires.

The battery seems to be working fine for now, we will see once I get out on the beach.

All of the connections look in good shape too.

Let me know what yall think I should do to get this puppy back up to par.

Checking in to see your progress...

Me...... Building a excalibur since I am unable to get out.

Something I have talked about for some time, changing the pod around and eliminating most of the controls. Also made a couple 3s Li-ion batteries for it..12.6 volts.

Thanks, I've not gotten far, been busy at work and lazy when I get home.  Just took the knobs off and the o-rings look pretty good. I'll lube them up..

They all look like the one in the picture.

Do you think I should replace them anyways?

I just ordered the coil and headphone cable, they should be here on friday.

Great job on treasure talk the other night!

Thanks You! Replacing is not to hard, they don't look bad (O-ring) but maybe in the near future?

Hey obn,

Does this twist out?

The cable came today 😁

Edit: never mind, leaving it in.

It stays in, you need to cut the top off of the heyco pigtail (you took off) and screw it back on so when the epoxy is poured in, the heyco acts as a anchor to hold all in place. That make sense?

That looks Great!! My first couple times looked ruff!

On the length, I would go with a little extra, I have one that goes straight down the shaft, no wrap. My latest I went with a foot extra...

The machine pictured I've had out once, semi rough water. Silent, no falsing with water hitting the coil wire / pod and swing fast..... Taking it out Tuesday in Very Rougher waters, see if my idea works. The board is isolated from the outside surroundings.20210626.thumb.jpg.202e317f750f9b4459ec1455641ffea5.jpg

Thank you "Joe obn kenobi" you were my only hope 😄

New coil and headphone cables!

I didn't feel comfortable with my skill level to open up and solder inside the housing so I soldered the wires outside and shrink tubed them.

Super happy with how the headphones turned out.

Not so happy with how the coil attaches to the machine ( I forgot to put the hard plastic wire saver springy thing on 😒).  I may have to cut the wire again, drill out the end cap and solder it inside. Perhaps I'll look into a new coil, maybe a little smaller like an 8".

I was surprised that it turned on!!! It seems to run stable but there is too much emi inside the house to tell...

This was a fun project and I'm sure it will lead to more tinkering.20210713_225812.thumb.jpg.4391d9e1b91124ce5d2fd87ae853dba7.jpg20210713_230143.thumb.jpg.9ac96cfa11b9b6298cea6a71efdbfb95.jpg20210713_230147.thumb.jpg.50261d6aa9c40f7a7126140447703f76.jpg20210713_230157.thumb.jpg.7fdb418d90d76b604a97abe7ac503cf5.jpg20210713_230205.thumb.jpg.f3578f07271794e9b2e3a329a01ea3b1.jpg

What do you think? Should I submerge it in the bathtub before going in the ocean?

Thanks again!
