X-coils For The GPX 6000 - Information Repository

Recommended Posts

Yes, that wasn't me, just passing on the information, the 12x6" coil and gold finds are the X-coils manufacturers testing the coil out.  If it was me I'd be jumping for joy though, firstly it would mean I own a GPX 6000 and secondly it would mean I've got the 12x6" coil to use on it 😛

What I will do from now on is any information I get about these new GPX 6000 X-coils I'll put them into this thread, that way it keeps it all consolidated and for those that are interested they can open this thread up and see what's happening, and for those not interested it's all contained in once place so they know where it is.

So here is the previous video of the first test coil being used, it's a 15x10"

Also, the adapter is a fairly tricky one compared to the GPZ coils, with the chip needing removed from the original coil to make it, fortunately for the Aussies the guy that's currently making everyone's GPZ adapters there has said he'd be interested in making the GPX adapters for people too, and X-coils are in discussions with him about this taking place in the future so that'll make it a lot easier for the Australians who want to use these coils.

I would like to see Minelab come to the party straight away and allow aftermarket coils to be made, with the required chips sold by Minelab.

Aftermarket coil makers have a long history of making coils that are far better than what Minelab is supplying as stock. Minelab need to embrace this, because coils will come whether they want them or not.

As an aside, I see more and more people complaining about the PITA coil twisting problem on the 6K, with some even resorting to sourcing carbon shafts and building their own lower stems, complete with locking pins ! Very poor for a detector costing 8K !

Here is a video of the 12x6" coil finding a little nugget, it's very windy there at the moment, I think he does very well to recover this with one hand while filming with the other..... I doubt I would be capable of doing that, I always put my phone down to recover it 🙂

They're currently working on an even smaller size coil so I will hopefully have a video of that one being tested soon.

Coiltek responded on this thread that they are indeed making GPX 6000 coils. I moved the post and all the ones that responded to a new thread. Please go thereto talk Coiltek, and stay on this thread for X Coil.

X-coils are currently working hard on making and testing various models of coils.  They've now competed an 8" Coil which is working very well.  This one would be one I would have to have for the 6000 as I love this coil on my GPZ, it's really one of my favourite coils, the other being the 15" Concentric although I'm not sure if we will see Concentric coils on the GPX, who knows...... 🙂

Here is a video of it being used.

And here is it next to it's 11" coil that went through open heart surgery to allow the X-coils to live 🙂

Things are progressing well for them and another size that I would desperately want is currently being made but until it's tested and verified as a good working size that's kept under wraps.

Early wet Weather in Northern Nevada, sure messed up a few of my hunts!  But, this last Hunt was called Rain or Shine!  Be there or miss out with the original hunting party.  We had half the amount of coils on the ground during this hunt and managed to find a few sweet spots of dinks to add to our pokes.  Rain on us with snow in the ground 200’ above us all 4-Days!  6000, Retune Button got a workout.  I kept the 11” Mono on.  Tried the DD for a few hours with no luck, don’t know if the ground and line I took was bad, but the guys behind me where finding nuggets…so back to the 11”.  My truck is out in the drive way in the wet Weather still loaded up with me gear!  Getting wet again to unload it, I can’t wait 🤨
      Until the next Hunt!

Is there or has there been any comparison testing done in the field on depth with the 6000 vs the 7000 using the NF 12" Z-search coil.
      Thanks . . .

I had something strange happen, today. I had my GPX 6000 battery fully charged and fresh off the charger.  It had completed its charge cycle and then trickle charged overnight.  I popped it in the detector and started detecting. Within five minutes the battery meter dropped from three bars to two bars.  If I turned off the detector and let it sit for a 5-10 minutes and then turned it back on, it would go back up to three bars for a short period of time before then going back to two bars. Has anyone else noticed this with theirs?

as I already put in another post, I just bought a second-hand gpx 5000.  It comes with the comander 11 DD and 11Mono coils.  I would like if it is possible for a colleague to recommend a coil to complement the ones it brings.  Its use would be to search for coins.  I've been looking at the detech 15 inch DD ultra sensing.  If anyone has used it, what can you tell me about it?

Hey all, still have a gpx 4000 I bought from AK M&D. Guess it's time for an upgrade. My Question is does the 4500 have enough improvements to justify the upgrade

After reading all items available I am confused.  It's probably just me so I apologize if this is a dumb question.  In soil that has low mineralization which coil will go deeper and is more suitable, a DD coil or a mono coil of equal size?  Or in low mineralization does it not matter if you use a DD or a mono coil?
