1 of the best recovery stories I've read here ! Looks like you dug about 12". And that is the semi-crazy reason I had for rototilling the yard. Many others besides the depth : iron , Mom's grass , broken ring , etc. Nice yard and you dug alot over the years. So I can see why you didn't want to butcher it. But my initial thoughts were correct in that it was deep after 40 years. So happy for you that you found it. Btw - I will give you a bit more than $20 if you decide to sell..🤣

So happy you found your ring. Perseverance and enough time learning what to look for paid off.  Sounds like iron was masking it but the Minelab came through for you. Congratulations!

Yea what everyone else has said so far and I think you need to become a "Ringfinder" since you have the desire it seems.
