There is a large area with red soil here in Tuscany, central Italy. Area where we have an intense mineralization, red dirt. Years ago I took this stone which I use to make some quick test at home. Hematite is an iron ore and that’s why I need pulse inductions too..

We have hematite here in our East Texas area also along with maghemite & limonite iron ores. My red dirt sites will cover a magnet with little bits, pebbles & fuzz. Quite a few of the darker rocks are hot. It is a special needs type of dirt for sure.

I don't have a PI unit but my Tarsacci MDT 8000 handles it well.

I’ve never tried with a magnet but it is a test I have to do.  There’s bauxite as well. When I touch the soil with the pinpointer before doing ground balance, it screams.. 

Anyway think Tarsacci is a really serious machine!

I would think bauxite would be problematic depending on the concentration.
