Detecting Large Gold Deposits At Depth

Recommended Posts

Remember one ... The range of the "Two-box depends" on the width of the search coils ../ 38cm /. but even so, the maximum range of the twobox will be essentially the same as the normal detector coil ... of the same size./38cm ..

The basic advantage of Two-box is the possibility of better elimination of small things ... the size of a coin or something ... how to wear Twobox above the ground at a height of 35-40 cm and more and ... good reach for items the size of a box of cigarettes or more.

You keep teasing us with this and similar photos!  Has this 2 box attachment come to market yet, and if so, how does one get one (and what does it cost)?

Check out the work of two-boxing ... and the style of the search ...

my airtest for a similar ammunition box NATO... reached them a little narrower had in the Airtest a range of 175 cm ..

We have a few churn drill tests on our mine from the 1960's. Some of the attemps got stopped out by rock. Modern companies say it is too hard to drill where we are at because of the rock. Also, drilling requires a POO. This project is a treasure hunt and I don't want the Forest Service involved on this one. Alaska supports mining, California fight it.  We'll just keep the hole going for now & hand sampling along the faultline in other areas for now. Thanks.

Drilling does not require a POO. A certain amount of surface resource disturbance might require an NOI but there is no need to disturb surface resources for small unit power drilling or even hand drilling.

Consider a human powered Banka drill if you really want to go cheap. You will still have the problem with rock the drillers are talking about, you will still get such small samples that the nugget effect will destroy any credibility to your drill samples but you will be able to drill cheap and without any involvement from the Forest Service.

There are reasons there are so many small rich gold deposits still to be mined in the west. The lack of water, access or easy digging are the primary reasons but in the end it's not whether the deposit is rich but whether the deposit can be mined at a profit.

All true Clay & thank you. We had to get a POO & bond for the eastern drift. Wasn't hard to due. We had to take a skid steer out there & make a descent haul road to the site for trommel access. Then we had to pump water up 100 feet in elevation & 2000 ft in distance to get it to our holding pond. That required two 3 inch pumps in series as one pump didn't have the head to make the lift. I tended the pumps and learned not to let them run out of gas as we had no foot valve. When they shut down 2000 ft of 3 inch layflat needed to be purged which meant you uncorked the pumps and took a shower. Every morning LOL.

Consider renting ground penetrating radar.  You can get a simple system for about $100/day with a $100 prep fee (look on-line).  Shipping and insurance are extra.  There are useful videos on-line to help you understand and interpret it, but there would be a significant learning period before renting.  You would also have to convince the rental agency that you are responsible.    All in all this would require a significant effort to make this happen, but it is in the range of possibility for an amateur.

If the gold is deposited along with black sands (magnetite), then Steve is correct (magnetometer).

There is a hydrolic push punch, track rig called a geoprobe, which could be used with a solid point to first locate the buttom (Bedrock at depth), then utilize macrocore sampler which is attached to the bottom rod, to collect samples at selected depth intervals, in an acrylic sleeve. Be sure to use a core catcher with each sleeve used, so the sample won't fall out.

Once all the sleeved samples are collected at various depths, you can pan each sample to determine gold concentrations.

This would allow to make a small stratigraphic map of the subsurface and gold concentrations in that area. A good crew could do to that area in one day! $2000/per my day.

Note: if gravels are dry, loose and non-cohesive the geoprobe drilling method may not work. Samples will just fall out of the sleeves and holes will collapse on themselves.
