My best field produced over 20 large and half cents to include a 1793 Large cent. In the south we call them "Big Pennies"

Officially the USA has Cents. The British have Pennies. Here we say penny too.

I had never heard of Large Cents until I got into metal detecting. I call them Large Cents because that's what the Red Book calls them and call them cents because it says Cent right on the coin.

Canadian coppers are called pennies.

Most Colonial coppers are Half Pennies.

Modern cents are often called pennies here in New England, but that's more of a nickname.

Calling a Large Cent a Big Penny just sounds funny.
