Try a pair of plug in ear buds, and then use a pair of earmuffs to cut out the wind.

In the past I have stuck lambswool over the outside of earphones by using silicon on the leather side. Works brilliantly.

The 6000 headphones are good until it gets windy.

Bose noise cancelling buds are great but expensive.

I have done this also. It works well enough. For whatever reason the supplied 6000 headphones are terrible in the wind.

A hoodie definitely would work, I'll try that next time. It's pretty dang cold out with the wind right now so not a problem until July or so.

The microphone windscreen foam was my first thought of course , there are thick "wolf ruff" ones for extreme gain in wind conditions........and seriously , that setup sheppo posted would probably work pretty good ! 

The hood thing works for me at the beach . Just the raincoat hood is pretty good if it's too hot for hoodies. 

 

I have pro IEMs (in ear monitprs ) that are custom molds made for on stage and will block out the mother of all bands ....if you want to get extreme...caution advised , we used limiters to protect hearing loss ,,,,I just said " Protect your hearing , don't turn 'em up too much"  lol , I have to turn mom's hearing aid down all the time , she turns it up to feedback levels , which is a good trick if you ever tried)

I've seen YT videos on how to make your own custom molds with ear buds too....

They work but I find them pretty shock sensitive. When you touch the cable they give an unpleasant banging sound in the ears.

The problem with this and the hoodie option is the heat. When you live in warmer climates (AZ, NV, CA) this will not work most of the times.

JP- the mic covers are called “dead cats”.  Terrible name, but they work really well.   Some motorcyclists and bicyclists use a similar one that goes on the helmet strap.   

@jasong as pointed out, the Avantre Neck collar speaker works well in wind, even better with its earplugs, and maybe even better with some over the ear wind covers for hearing aids and ear buds.

Haven't tried these, they’re way too expensive for what they are and reviews are bad, but look at the photo for another idea…

I’ve also heard of bicyclists using tape over their earbuds- that’s got to be uncomfortable! The suggestion of earbuds with some sort of cover like a soft headband may be the less expensive and most comfortable option for strong wind…
