Can You Identify This Find?

My friend is just getting started with metal detecting and sent me this picture of an object he dug in a local park. It looks old to me but I have no guesses. Any ideas?

It's a Dorge. Or Dorje. Or Vajra. 🤪

Well, I was thinking door knob at first but hairpin and door knob are not much stranger than the real answer!
