just looked at my 800's 11" coil. The ears on that are pretty small and thin. These new ones are really substantial and probably less brittle plastic also....hopefully the 700 and 900 mark the end of pod flooding and broken coil ears....

Here is another picture of the new ears

Something absolutely hilarious is one of the NZ dealers has the 11" Nox coil on their website for sale, and in their display photo it has a coil ear stiffener on it 😛  I don't know if they know or where they got that picture from!  Funny....

Wow, phrunt!  You are exactly right.  That is, well, "odd..."

Have noted the user manual for the 900 appears to have an error regarding sensitivity as it states in places 0 - 25  it should be 0 - 28

Reminds of the old Spinal tap movie:

skip to 1:20

Better than I thought actually. I expected old guts in new hardware, but they actually upgraded the guts also. Expanded target range is my main like, may have to have one of these. Or a Manticore, but the ability to use my existing coils makes this attrative.

I guess they had to upgrade the guts to at least be comparable to the Legend with the full target ID range, flash light, vibrating handle etc etc sound familiar? 🙂

Yeah, but Nokta managed to do it for $500US less 🤣  The Legends are deep discounted @$510 right now (with wireless phones).

Nevertheless, like what they did.  Basically the Manticore without the coil stem upgrade, Manticore coil compatibility and without Multi IQ+ target trace.

Makes sense from a ML mass production standpoint too because the use of the common Manticore/Nox 900 shaft system means adjacent hardware production lines are almost identical.

The should have called it the "Equicore 700/900" or "Mantinox 700/900"🤣

It's actually a tempting upgrade for me because I love my Coiltek Nox 5x10 so much, I was going to keep the Nox around even after my inevitable Manticore purchase in mid-2023 once the M-core small coil finally hits the streets.  Hate to lose compatibility with my Torus neck speaker though.

That's what I'm thinking. I can wait on the Motocross until sometime next year. The 900 with the 10x5 Coiltek should be a killer combo!

I've been wanting to upgrade from the Equinox 800 and the new 900 doesn't offer enough improvements to justify buying that machine. It will be nice to own a 700/900 dont get me wrong but the Manticore with that 2D target ID screen is a very tempting acquisition. I get that some people wont be able to afford a more expensive machine and the 900 will be the next best thing. Being able to use older coils is nice and It will be interesting to see how much better the 700/900 is performance wise over the older Equinox models. Anyone just starting out in the hobby will be more than happy with an older Nox as it has found me great stuff over the years and prices will be dropping so a good bargain to be had.

The way they clumped the releases together the 900 might be odd man out.  Got to stick with my 800 for now.  I'll go manticore if things improve health wise.  But worst case i get the 700 if my 800 dies and i have the coiltek 10x5 i love.

The FCC finally released the 700 and 900 test docs. Looks like Minelab finally wised up to the way we were getting word of releases early over the last 10 years or so and submitted a letter to the FCC requesting no publication until Dec 2.  So, looks like that leak source is drying up.

Interestingly, it appears this detector was originally called "Platypus 2". Probably just some code name for it in the lab, but how hilarious would that have been to get the Manticore, followed by the Platypus 2?
